Monetarium 2 was a resounding success and a meaningful step forward in bringing together communities focused on fixing the dollar with those focused on building backups to the dollar, should they ever be needed. The conference had the dual theme of Plan A: Fixing the Fiat System — i.e., paying down the national debt and preserving the strength of the US Dollar — and Plan B: Building a Better System — i.e., offering alternative currency options to replace fiat if the fiat system continues to degrade. We had experts on the debt and deficit: Romina Boccia from the Cato Institute, David Walker, former Comptroller General of the United States; macro fund managers Mark Dinner and Gwynne Thompson; professors Richard Evans of the University of Virginia and Lawrence H. White of George Mason University; members of the crypto industry from the Reserve ecosystem and the USDI project, among many others; as well as , Chief Counsel of the SEC’s Crypto Task Force. Beginning today, we’ll be releasing the recorded keynote presentations, and we’ll soon publish recordings of all of the roundtable discussions as well. Tune in to learn about the state of our debt and deficit, macro conditions to monitor in order to understand what may happen to the US Dollar; lessons from economic history and traditional finance that apply to DTFs and asset-backed currency; discussions of governance, marketing, and basket design within the Reserve ecosystem; a proposed market structure for decentralized finance from the Digital Securities Initiative; and an update from the SEC about the “innovation exemption” that they’re working on offering. We’re also excited to share a new event series called Monetarium Dialogues, which kicks off on July 10th with Peter Thiel leading a curated 50-person discussion in Washington, D.C., on “The Debt, the Dollar, and Our Options From Here.” You’ll be able to watch a recording of the main presentation from that evening online; the second half will be off the record. 🔊 SOUND ON! Near-zero fees, lightning fast, asset-backed currency factory for all? Impossible. Think again: Reserve has landed on Base Build 🔵 H/t to jesse.base.eth and the Base ecosystem! What is Reserve Protocol? Reserve is a free, permissionless platform on Ethereum and now Base to build, deploy and govern asset-backed currencies referred to as “RTokens.” RTokens are always 1:1 asset-backed, allowing for permissionless minting and redeeming on-chain by users without the need for any middlemen. Each RToken can have an entirely different governance system and is governed separately by ecosystem stakers. The protocol completed its 5th audit with Code4rena and reached the “all-clear” in Feb 2023. It currently has an industry-leading $5M bug bounty on Immunefi. What has Reserve achieved so far? Reserve has made leaps since the all-clear seven months ago. Six RTokens have already been deployed by the community. The protocol has grown to $30M TVL and these RTokens have had a cumulative volume of over $340 million, across onchain and offchain uses. ~6% of the circulating RSR supply has been staked on RTokens to participate in governance, earn a share of yield and provide overcollateralization. The protocol has also forged deep relationships in the Curve Finance, Convex Finance and Stake DAO governance ecosystems. The flagship Reserve safety mechanism - staker overcollateralization - was stress tested during the Mar 2023 run on SVB and the subsequent depegging of several stablecoins. Electronic Dollar (eUSD), the first RToken, autonomously recapitalized without a regulator backstop and before the banks reopened. The Reserve launch brings self-healing currency to Base. Why deploy to Base? DeFi should expand far beyond a few thousand power users. Base’s lower transaction fees will enable people who are interested in using yield bearing stablecoins to actually use them without having all benefits wiped out by gas costs.
