Thank you Bakari Sellers for your kind words and insight. The American mythology that poverty is a Black issue leaves out millions and millions of white people. And until we face the reality of all poverty in America, and that it is in fact abolishable, it remains one of our greatest immoral realities.

Too often when we think about poverty, we buy into the idea of the Black mother on welfare. But with that picture we dismiss tens of millions of white people living in poverty, and that never allows us to deal with the issue in its fullness.
