You know that scene in Shrek where he confesses to Donkey his insecurity about how being ugly makes him see himself as undeserving of companionship, and that he acts like a monster because people treat him like one? Did you notice that scene doesn't have any therapy speak?

Actions speak louder than words. Here's a video of feminists disrupting a conference for male suicide victims, and another one of them disrupting a conference for male victims of domestic violence. Feminists have also worked to cover up evidence of symmetry in domestic violence perpetration between men and women to prop up the debunked "patriarchal dominance" theory that promotes the idea that men are always aggressors and women are always victims, and they have also actively advocated against the funding of shelters for male domestic violence victims.

Real Life Fake Wizard made a video recently talking about how bad writers default to "morally gray" protagonists because it removes the need for consistent values and a story that challenges those values, so there's no need for a meaningful arc. It's a lot easier to write a character who just does whatever the writer feels like because a character who can do anything is indistinguishable from a character who has no traits.

I remember a year ago, some zoomer girl said she got in an Uber and the driver had "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel playing on the radio and it scared her. Why? I don't know. Maybe it was featured in some Netflix show, or maybe zoomers are just afraid of anything old, like VHS tapes.

There's an episode of Beavis & Butt-Head where they sell candy bars to raise money for some thing their school's doing, but they keep selling candy bars to each other while passing the same two dollars back and forth. This is how the government and public sector operate.

I hate the way modern movies are shot. Here's a scene from the 2024 Netflix movie Damsel, which I just watched last night. Notice how it's basically just two characters talking while looking directly at each other, filmed in a lazy shot/reverse shot fashion where one character will be filmed in a medium shot or close-up, then it will cut to a medium shot or close-up of the other character, and it just goes back and forth like that until they're done talking and one of them leaves. Notice how they have this interesting location where a lot could be going on, but one of the characters is just kind of fucking around, pretending to do something with the flowers until it's time for the other character to start talking to them, then when they're done talking, she just leaves instead of continuing whatever it was she was doing when the other character came in. It's like the scene was written with only dialog, and they didn't have anything in mind for the characters to be doing other than talking, so the director just told that one lady to fuck around with the flowers until the other actress made it to her mark so it wouldn't just start with her standing around. The context of this scene is one character is realizing the other character is hiding something sinister. Until this point, we don't know that the lady on the left is evil and is taking advantage of the lady on the right. The scene starts with Bad Lady up on the platform, which physically places her higher in the scene; a visually dominant position. But then Good Lady steps up onto the platform with her, visually putting them on equal footing, which contradicts the purpose of the scene. They could have had Good Lady looking up at Bad Lady from below, then at the critical moment, had Bad Lady lean over the rail while talking down to Good Lady, using her body language to convey a sense of power over her. I mean, that's not much, but it would have been something. Most of the talking scenes in this movie are shot this way. It's so bland that I wondered if they used the Volume, but then I found out they actually shot these scenes at real locations. They were given permission to film at these amazing locations, but barely utilized them to their visual storytelling potential.

What you need to understand about the Chinese economy is it's largely based on appearance. Since the government owns all land and private ownership is illegal, the government sells leases to corporations who get to use the land for a few decades. Since they can't expand outward by buying the neighboring land, they maximize their use by constructing really tall buildings, and since there's no guarantee their leases will be renewed, they don't bother constructing them to last. This is why their buildings are of such notoriously poor quality. The government doesn't care because when these buildings go up really fast, it makes it look like they're developing faster than they really are. So then they just slap on a ton of LED lights and put on an impressive drone show for the tourists and it makes foreign investors think their economy is doing better than it really is. Meanwhile, what you don't see in the shill videos of city skylines on Twitter and TikTok is the poor people on the ground eating rats and cockroaches fried in reused oil that was literally scooped out of a gutter.

Getting actors to remember their lines instead of filming everything in isolated close-ups in a simple shot/reverse-shot fashion that makes it easy to cut multiple takes together, effectively fixing their acting in post while they just sit or stand looking directly at each other.

We need to abolish the Department of Education. English literature majors — the people who will become teachers — are going to college without having ever read a book because they "don't know how" and were never expected to because of "critical literacy", which is essentially critical theory applied to reading which teaches kids to basically invent their own meaning based on their feelings when reading a text instead of understanding what the author actually meant. If that sounds so obviously stupid that you can't believe it's true, congratulations, you now understand why giving the corrupt federal government the power to decide education curricula for every child in America was a mistake.
