𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒: “Lagos traffic is not a problem, it is a lifestyle.” The comments made by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, at PodFestNaija 2026 have been deliberately taken out of context. His remarks were neither a celebration of traffic congestion nor an indication that the Lagos State Government is comfortable with the inconvenience experienced by Lagosians. Rather, he was explaining a reality that every resident of Lagos understands. Lagos is Nigeria’s commercial capital and one of Africa's busiest cities. Millions of people move across the state every day for work, business, education, entertainment and commerce. That daily movement has shaped how people plan their schedules, consume information, create content and conduct business. In that context, traffic has become part of the Lagos lifestyle. It influences when people leave home, how businesses operate, how podcasts, music and digital content are consumed, and even how entrepreneurs reach their audiences. This was the point the Deputy Governor was making during a conversation about the growth of the creative and digital economy. Recognising that traffic has become part of daily life is not the same as accepting it as the ideal. It is simply acknowledging the realities of a rapidly growing megacity while working continuously to improve mobility. The Lagos State Government has consistently invested in practical solutions to improve mobility across the state. These include the expansion of rail transportation, the development of water transport, strategic road construction and junction improvements, intelligent traffic management systems, the deployment of LASTMA personnel, and Traffic Radio 96.1FM, which provides real time traffic updates to help commuters make informed travel decisions and reduce delays. Together, these initiatives form part of a comprehensive multimodal transport strategy aimed at reducing travel time and improving connectivity. Those seeking to portray the Deputy Governor's comments as insensitive have relied on an isolated phrase instead of the substance of his remarks. Public discourse is best served when statements are presented in their full context rather than through selective excerpts. Traffic is a reality of every major global city. In Lagos, it has become part of how people organise their lives, while government remains firmly committed to making that reality easier, safer and more efficient for everyone. BREAKING!! Police release video of 33 people arrested at Babs Hotel in Ede, the hometown of the incumbent Gov. Ademola Adeleke. The suspects were allegedly imported into Osun State by Accord Party to vote for the Governor in today’s election. The Guild newspaper reports that the suspects confessed they were contracted by Accord Party from Ondo and Ekiti states to participate in the Osun election with the promise to be paid for the job. #OsunVotes

BREAKING!!! An Accord Party’s lawmaker in Osun State House of Assembly, representing Irewole Isoko Constituency, Hon. Abiola Ibrahim, has been caught by the police after he imported 146 non-Osun residents to vote in today’s governorship election. The lawmaker made a preliminary confessional statement to the police, explaining how he camped the alien voters in Ikire to vote for Accord Party. UPDATE: The deal is sealed! This afternoon, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab (Tokunbo Wahab), met with Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki (tokunbo), a young innovator, who gained viral attention last Saturday for his daring proposal published on X, detailing how his startup can deploy technology to create seamless access to the newly-installed public toilets in strategic locations in Lagos. The viral post was brought to the Commissioner’s attention, prompting him to invite the whiz kid. Adetokunbo, in company of his startup partner, Ademola Gbadero, presented his idea to the Commissioner in about 30mins. They duo demonstrated how they developed a tech solution to solve similar challenges on their university campus, the University of Ibadan; the platform, the said, has successfully helped students locate clean and available toilets within the school. The Commissioner interviewed the young innovators in company of his cabinet colleague, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Geographic Information Systems (e-GIS), Dr. Olajide Babatunde, and the Director of Sanitation Services in the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr. Sanuth. In their PowerPoint presentation, Adetokunbo and Ademola outlined their proposal for the development of an advanced model of their tech platform, which would enable commuters in Lagos to easily find clean and available public toilets in real-time using geo-mapping. They explained how their platform would provide users with information about toilet availability at every location, cleanliness ratings, walking directions and estimated time to walk to toilet. The Government team engaged the young innovators on their presentation, identifying areas for improvement and also highlighting potential limitations that could be addressed after the launch. Fascinated by the idea, the Commissioner approved Adetokunbo’s proposal. He also requested a comprehensive budget for the project be submitted in the next meeting coming in a few days. This project will further bolster the drive for a “Cleaner Lagos” being championed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki, 24, is a fresh graduate of Mathematics from the University of Ibadan.
