Today is a special day! After five years of intensive research, our team of eight Rijksmuseum conservators started removing the varnish from Rembrandt's The Night Watch. This will enable us to preserve the painting for future generations. You can watch this process live, as the work is being conducted in the see-through glass chamber in the Night Watch Gallery of the Rijksmuseum. 🚨 More about The Night Watch: Operation Night Watch is made possible by main partner AkzoNobel and the Rijksmuseum Fonds.

Preparations are in full swing for our upcoming blockbuster exhibition, Asian Bronze, celebrating 4000 years of bronze artistry from India, China, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Nepal, and Korea. ✨ One standout piece is a Thai national treasure—this Buddha, making its international debut. Southern Thailand was a melting pot of influences. Images of the Buddha and a seven-headed nāga, a mythical serpent, are particularly revered in Cambodia. 🐍 Yet, its style is distinctly Thai, and thanks to an inscription, we even know the artist: Mrateng Shri Nano. The exhibition Asian Bronze opens Friday 27 September. 🖼️ Buddha Seated Under the Hood of a Seven-Headed Nãga. Wat Wiang, Chaiya, Surat Thani Province, Thailand, 12th-13th century bronze.
