He lived most of his life in a State that didn't exist when he was born. Holocaust survivor Josef Zelensky lived to the age of 107 and his funeral took place today.

The France GAA Gaelic football international team that are on an Irish tour have been a revelation. They have won their first two matches against Portobello and a Na Fianna selection. They know how to play, are extremely fit and can handle the rough stuff too. None of these players have any Irish connection whatsoever - they just love the game. Not sure this French guy meant to do this, and forgive the ship at sea camera angle, but if he meant to do this, it's some goal.

Strong words by the Taoiseach today about the Herzog Park renaming controversy at the Holocaust Education Ireland annual commemoration. "When a group of people decide that they will seek to rename the only park in our capital named after an Irish Jew without any consultation with the Jewish community – and when they announce later that they will find a Jew they deem worthy enough to provide a new name – then frankly the community has every right to be deeply concerned and to express that concern."

In October 1914 the 2nd battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment (mostly recruited from the counties of Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny) fought at the Battle of Le Pilly. Of the 900 men who partook in the battle just 135 escaped the battle, 177 were killed and the rest wounded or taken prisoner. Since rediscovering the battle 12 years ago, the residents of Herlies outside Lille, have erected a memorial and host an annual commemoration with the children of the Simone Veile national school singing It's a long way to Tipperary.
