From the scene of the targeted attack on coleagues Steve Sweeney and Ali Sbeity on Al-Qasmieh Bridge, south Lebanon—taken the next day. The location is just feet away from a Lebanese Army installation. The attack was intended not only to disrupt ongoing coverage of Israeli war crimes in south Lebanon, but to destroy civilian infrastructure and a key transportation link that connects major roads in the south.

"And those who brought five thousand of them in sixty days, just so they could come and impose a ceasefire, continued dying in it for fifteen months—no, go, may God be with you. Go, Muhammad be with you. Go, Ali be with you. Go, Hussein be with you. Go, on the Night of Power, all our prayers are with you. Go, by the sanctity of all our fasting, and by the sanctity of all your fasting, and by the sanctity of the martyrdom of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, may God grant you victory. May God allow you to restore honor to the people sleeping on the streets, and may He let you return these people with their heads held high against every dog and son of a dog who had the audacity to think he can look down upon us and think that we will remain silent about our rights. Bring us our rights now—fifteen months of suffocation here, while people say we are dying and not having the nerve to fight back—we responded. Someone came out and played on the piano and said to Sheikh Naeem: “Respond." Well we responded, you dog, son of a dog. Where are you now? Where are you among the men standing—the ones standing with living flesh, defending their country and their land? Where are you? Where are you, you who submitted and kissed the slippers so that you would remain safe? Damn you and the safety you sought, if it comes without dignity." - Ali Mortada || علي مرتضى

Ali Khalil, the brother of martyred Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil, who was reporting alongside Al Akhbar colleague Zeinab Faraj (who is in stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery) when she was deliberately targeted and subsequently killed by Israel yesterday: "Amal was present in every home; every home in Lebanon has lost her. Amal resembles the south in all its details—its sweet breeze, its valleys, its mountains, and its old houses. She resembles all of that."

The highway from Beirut to Jabal Amel (south Lebanon) has once again transformed into a massive wave of return, as southerners head back to reclaim their land, piece by piece. Passing through devastated towns in Tyre and Nabatieh, this journey home proves that for the people of south Lebanon, the physical act of return is an explicit declaration that ownership of south Lebanon remains absolute, non-negotiable, and entirely unbending to Israeli aggression. My latest report from south Lebanon.
