#BIG - As a journalist, I have covered Sikh affairs, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Punjab’s major political and religious developments for more than two and a half decades. Today, for the first time, I witnessed Congress legislators being heard collectively at Sri Akal Takht Sahib with such patience, dignity and respect. Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and other Congress MLAs were given ample time to explain their position on the anti-sacrilege legislation. Considering the Congress party’s historically difficult relationship with Sikh institutions, this was a significant moment. To me, it reflected the impartial stature of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and opened space for dialogue, accountability and reconciliation.

Normal operations resume at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar After a week of disruption, normal flight operations have gradually resumed at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, Amritsar. Between December 3 and 10, IndiGo Airlines operated only 106 of its 196 scheduled flights, cancelling 90 and affecting over 4,500 passengers. Airport Director Bhupinder Singh said extensive support measures were arranged, including refunds for 247 passengers, hotel stays for over 200, and 78 taxis for onward travel. Additional staff, food, and seating facilities were deployed, along with an emergency train reservation counter. "Full normalcy is expected by December 14–15", said Bhupinder Singh.

The demolition of the 125-year-old Gurdwara Singh Sabha Lehar near Gurdwara Sri Sacha Sauda in Pakistan, raises troubling questions: Who authorized it? Why was the historic site not protected? And who stands to benefit from the land? Can a minister’s visit after the demolition really protect Sikh heritage in Pakistan? Had stringent action been taken earlier against land grabbers occupying properties attached to Sikh and Hindu shrines, perhaps no one would have dared to demolish this historic structure. Pakistan must move beyond symbolic visits and official assurances. It needs a transparent investigation, restoration of the site and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
