Je n’ai commis aucun crime, je suis innocent. » Il avait raconté faire l’objet de tortures, être passé à tabac , recevoir de la nourriture avarié , être torturé « comme dans les films ». « si vous avez entendu ce qu’Hitler à fait aux juifs ou ce qu’Israël fait aux palestiniens , c’est qu’ils sont entrain de nous faire subir » Il avait dit que la seule raison pour laquelle il était encore en vie est qu’il y’avait le CHOGM (la réunion des chefs de gouvernement du Commonwealth) qui devait se tenir à Kigali. « Ils nous ont dit qu’aussitôt la CHOGM terminée , ils vont nous tuer. » 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 On May 30, 2022 — exactly one year after the beginning of his imprisonment — he was brought before the court and declared: “I am serving a sentence whose reason I do not understand. I have committed no crime, I am innocent.” He said that he had been subjected to torture, beaten, given spoiled food, and tortured “like in the movies.” “If you have heard about what Hitler did to the Jews or what Israel is doing to the Palestinians, that is what they are making us go through.” He also said that the only reason he was still alive was because CHOGM (the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) was due to take place in Kigali. “They told us that as soon as CHOGM is over, they will kill us.”

How Twitter exposed the lies of Rwanda’s Minister of Propaganda. For months, Minister Jean-Damascène Bizimana has publicly harassed one of our members, Alfred Antoine Uzabakiriho (Alfred Antoine UZABAKILIHO), as well as some of his relatives. He fabricated statements, misquoted him, and deliberately tried to destroy his reputation simply because Alfred exposes human rights abuses in Rwanda. This campaign has gone far beyond political disagreement. Alfred was intimidated, stalked, and even confronted with private photographs taken without his consent, sent to him as a threat to show “we know where you are”. A police complaint has been filed in Belgium. And yet, despite all the intimidation, he refused to stay silent. Thanks to the new Twitter localization feature, Bizimana’s claim that Alfred runs a fake account from abroad has now collapsed. The propaganda fell apart in real time — exposed by the platform itself. What Minister Bizimana has done to Alfred is a textbook example of the regime’s strategy: smear, isolate, terrorize. We stand with Alfred. And we will continue to expose these tactics.

On this occasion, I would like to share with you the powerful statement made by MEP Hilde Vautmans, who addressed Rémy and Raïssa, Victoire’s children, with a message of hope and solidarity. “Their presence shows that there is a family behind every political detainee, and behind each political decision there can be changes to people’s lives. And they are the living proof that hope cannot be contained behind bars. We are here this evening to ask for the immediate release of Victoire Ingabire and all her colleagues, activists and journalists who are languishing in jail.
