R Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, expressed concern over Shubman Gill's poor form in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa (scores: 4, 0, 28) and his role as vice-captain. His statement: - •I'm a bit worried. Shubman is not just an opener but also the vice-captain. How do you drop the vice-captain? It would be a very tough decision. •Dropping him mid-series and bringing in someone like Sanju Samson wouldn't look right, as removing the vice-captain doesn't send a good message. •Gill should get a fair chance across the full 5-match series. •If he doesn't score runs in these 5 matches, then a decision will have to be made. •Ashwin added that he doesn't want Gill to play slowly just to save his place — if he's going to score, it should be at a good strike rate.
