A senior friend of mine has this passion of sharing a blog with many of us each year, especially tracking the monsoon in the coastal regions of Karnataka. This year, the below was his post. It was heartbreaking 💔💔💔 "Hello my friend: Just back from the coast. I have never experienced such a bleak monsoon. We have not even received a fifth of the rainfall expected during the first 40-day monsoon period. The El Nino effect is triggering extreme weather events worldwide. We have had 50km winds for many days(bringing down trees of all shapes and sizes), but the rainfall is severely suppressed. Very choppy ocean. A huge Jamun tree fell onto our home clipping the rear roof. Luckily a coconut tree standing tall broke the fall and averted a major disaster. We hardly see the sun during this part of the monsoon but every single day in July, we had sunshine 🌞 followed gloomy skies. At the same, it is paradoxical that Mumbai is getting hammered by record breaking rainfall and flooding. Scientists say moisture laden winds from the Arabian see is converging with the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. City's coastal geography forces weather systems to hit the Western Ghats and dump huge amounts rain in concertrated bursts. This phenomenon that defies El Nino is perplexing. This will adversely affect agriculture and crop productivity in coastal Karnataka. We will face drought conditions well before the summer sets in. I can already imagine we are going to have some really challenging times." Karnataka has been massively affected by the bad monsoon.

💢 #HMPV has been around for years. The symptoms seem to be more severe this year than in previous years (Influenza + COVID-like). The same thing happened in #China in 2023. Most cases are mild, but young children, adults over 65 and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk for serious illness. HMPV is common - most people get it before they turn 5. There is no vaccine currently to address this. Good to be watchful. Its already spreading in #Japan. Now with the New Year travel & Chinese New Year (29th Jan), #ASIA has to be wary! ⚡ Precautions while travelling across ASIA⚡ 1. **Wash your hands frequently**: Maintaining good hygiene habits and washing your hands frequently can effectively reduce the spread of viruses. 2. **Avoid close contact with infected persons**: Reduce direct contact with persons with suspected or confirmed HMPV infection, especially when coughing or sneezing. 3. **Environmental Disinfection**: Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles, keyboards, etc., to eliminate potential sources of viruses. 4. **Maintain indoor air circulation**: Ensure air circulation in living and working environments to reduce the spread of viruses in the air. 5. **Wear masks scientifically**: Wearing masks in crowded places or high-risk environments can effectively reduce the risk of virus transmission. 6. **Avoid going to crowded places**: Reduce going to crowded places, especially during high virus season, which can effectively reduce the risk of infection. ⚡Sharing an educational video that's viral on Chinese social media circles {amateurly translated by me}. **Consult your local Doctor for any symptoms or medications, and do not go by what's prescribed in the video, as it's only for local Chinese citizens.

I know Shalin well and I say this with all due respect. The claim that Ajith was “virtue signalling” in his interview with Anupama Chopra completely misses what he actually said — and what he represents at this stage of his life. He never claimed to be an intellectual or a moral compass. He was very clear: He is not an intellectual. He is an actor. That’s humility, not pretence. He doesn’t preach — he simply talks about his life as a professional who happens to be famous. When he said, “I can’t go to my son’s school for dropping… I can’t drive a car in India—if I get noticed, fifty or sixty motorcycles follow for a picture and put everyone’s life at risk,” he wasn’t bragging. He was describing the cost of stardom and how even simple joys are lost due to public frenzy. That’s awareness, not arrogance. He even told Anupama, half-jokingly, “You probably met me 20 years ago — you probably hated me,” acknowledging that he used to be a different person. That moment said everything — he’s evolved, learned from his mistakes, and chosen peace over ego. That’s growth, not performance. And at a time when we talk about reducing hero worship, Ajith saying all this — with this level of self-awareness — should be appreciated. He’s dismantling the very myth the industry thrives on. 🔺So, I hear from a few followers in Tamilnadu/India, that they aren't able to view this post by News Tamil 24x7 posted last night, which shows TASMAC charging 20₹ extra for purchases. This is an increase from 10₹ charged during the DMK rule. 👉The shocking thing is, I hear it's not visible in India.(screenshots attached below) Is this part of the new Tamil Nadu government's curbing of FoE that we have seen since the TVK won a majority?
