My first year in Canada I sent almost everything home. Wired it the second it hit. Then the car broke down in January and I had nothing left. Family back home understood the struggle, but the Canadian bills did not care about my intentions. Here is the real talk. Send what you can. Always. But lock three full months of your Canadian bills into a Canadian account first. Rent, heat, groceries, phone, insurance. The people at home need you stable more than they need the absolute maximum transfer every single month. One missed rent and everything collapses. The ones who actually last are the ones who protected the base before they maximized the send. Build that foundation. Secure the bag here. Then flood the family with confidence. Stability first. Remittance second. That is the immigrant code that separates the ones still standing after year three from the ones who went broke trying to prove love with every single dollar.

I didn’t come to Canada for a “better life.” I came because my wife’s medical career mattered, and our marriage was worth more than my own career. I wasn’t willing to risk a long-distance relationship. Not everyone can survive being worlds apart from their family.

Living abroad has taught me how to make hay while the sun shines. 6 months is the actual time you have to plant and store, while the other 6 months are winter period and you can’t even get to buy any cheap produce again. This is how tomatoes are sold in cases, and I’ll show you how we store food for the next 6 months in this video.
