There is a Zoroastrian fire temple in Yazd, Iran, that houses a sacred flame said to have been kept burning continuously since around 470 CE, making it one of the oldest continuously tended fires in the world. Known as an Atash Behram (“victorious fire”), it symbolizes purity, truth and the presence of Ahura Mazda, the supreme god of Zoroastrianism. The flame was moved through several locations over the centuries before being installed in the current temple, built in the 1930s.
