Israel is a Middle Eastern country, but unlike Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Qatar, it does not qualify for the World Cup through Asia. It has to qualify through Europe, a much more competitive field. That means tougher opponents, fewer realistic paths to the tournament, less global exposure, fewer sponsorship opportunities, less tourism, less national pride on the world stage and fewer moments for Israeli athletes to be seen by the world. World Cup qualification brings money, visibility, legitimacy and soft power. Israel was pushed out of Asian football in 1974 because its neighbors refused to play the Jewish state. Fifty years later, Israel is still paying the price.

BREAKING NEWS: NY Mayor Mamdani just vetoed a bill that would have stopped protesters from blocking, harassing, and intimidating kids trying to get into school. He signed the companion bill protecting houses of worship, but vetoed the one protecting preschools, day schools, and college students. The Council can still override the veto, but it needs 34 votes and the bill passed with 30. If you live in NYC, call your Council member at and urge them to vote YES on the override.

I’m writing this from my daughter’s school, but it could be almost any college because outside I hear chants of “Free Palestine.” This morning the FBI confirmed that the man who tried to blow up a Michigan synagogue full of children did so on Hezbollah’s orders. These activists are not protesters. They are either evil or ignorant, and they are driven by Iran, Hamas, and their proxies. They are coming for Jews and for America. And they have reached our preschools and our campuses.

Israel responded with airstrikes, and Iran immediately threatened the future of the deal. The irony is hard to miss: after distancing itself from Israel and negotiating directly with Iran, the US now finds that the success of its agreement may depend on Israel’s willingness to go along with terms it never negotiated, wasn't even mentioned in by name, and never accepted.
