Israel is a Middle Eastern country, but unlike Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Qatar, it does not qualify for the World Cup through Asia. It has to qualify through Europe, a much more competitive field. That means tougher opponents, fewer realistic paths to the tournament, less global exposure, fewer sponsorship opportunities, less tourism, less national pride on the world stage and fewer moments for Israeli athletes to be seen by the world.
