Just last season in the AFC Championship Game, the officials ruled this a live backwards pass in, as far as I can tell, identical circumstances to the ones being used to call this play an incomplete forward pass. Can someone explain the thing that differentiates the two plays? As I see it: 1. Throwing motion starts 2. Hit materially affects the throw (As the rule specifies) 3. Pass goes backwards. One called fumble (like we all know it should be). One called an incomplete forward pass. Anyone have an explanation of how they can coexist within the same set of rules? This is just the first such play I've found tape of, I know there's more (Cousins has one, top of my head?)

This is the problem with the rules analyst as a TV feature. We did NOT need to bring in a rules expert to ask whether the QB got hit in the fucking head here! Bring the guy in when you need to explain something wildly complex. Don't pass the job of commentating off.

This is a 10-second video (albeit slowed down..) and the only seconds where Brandon Jones knew where the ball was were the 1st and 10th seconds.

They called this incomplete before they negated it with pass interference anyway, but if there was no flag it would have counted! Spectacular catch

This is an absolutely INSANE play from ROOKIE Devon Witherspoon. Peels off his man, takes the right angle and deflects the ball away with the back of his hand!!

For a guy whose commitment/desire was questioned at draft time, Luther Burden did the dirty work on this TD. His block BURIED the safety and caved in the whole right side of the line.

I've only seen 3 guys in the NFL with true angle-breaking speed. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 Randy Moss Tyreek Hill Those guys made everyone else look slow by comparison.

The last time I saw a guy in that much pain and anguish over a hamstring was in 1992 when Derek Redmond's hamstring TORE OFF THE BONE in the semi-final of the Olympic 400m. Redmond then made it worse by limping the rest of the race, breaking down in tears as his dad helped him. That injury ended his career. Caleb ending up with a relatively minor hammy given that reaction is wild.

Sean Payton believes Caleb Williams is a 'truly generational player' & is good enough that somebody will tank for him+cause the NFL to move to a lottery system to stop it happening again I bring this up for no particular reason this October evening...

So, my problem with this play is inconsistency in the rules. An inadvertent whistle from an official stops a play dead. It can take points off the board: you get a pick six, but an official accidentally blows up before the defense scores... no points. Here, a whistle blows, but you can just pick up a football and be awarded points? I don't see how you can reconcile those.

These two plays got Jaylen Warren fined a total of $96,889. I don't think either one of them drew a flag at the time. That's absolutely awful from the NFL.
