When a tiger that has already killed a farmer suddenly attacks, what would you do? Most people would probably run for life. Near Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve in Bihar's West Champaran district, tiger tracker Vijay Uraon was attacked by a tiger that had been hiding in a sugarcane field. The tiger mauled his thigh. Instead of fleeing, fellow tracker Ramvinay Uraon and villagers rushed to fight the tiger. Their bravery saved Vijay... pulling him from the jaws of death... For a true Bihari, the bond of friendship and community is a sacred duty that outweighs personal risk.

During a trip from Delhi to Jaipur, I noticed that Haryana section of the Delhi Mumbai Expressway is a barren... treeless expanse. The Green Highways Policy (2015) was supposed to transform India’s highways by providing desperately needed shade/greenery... They've widened the roads by cutting down trees, but haven't planted new ones. Also, Gadkari ji should start charging more toll on this stretch. There's lot of vertical movement of vehicle... as if you are riding a roller coaster. Compared to this, roads built by Mayawati ji in UP are so smooth... they’re boring. Nitin Gadkari

The only good moment in Panchayat Season 4 is Binod's unadulterated happiness & his victory dance.... Not worth watching otherwise.

The idea of nationhood is strongest in Bihar. They gave the Idea of India to India... We all are the children of Bihar. Bihar was the epicenter for 1857 revolt! When the British had to kill India, they killed Bihar. That's what Indians are doing to Bihar.

Bihar ranked 5th in India in terms of GDP contribution in 1960s (accounting for ~8% of the nation's total GDP.) The State attracted job seekers from across the country. In the 1950s-70s, India had just a handful of key industrial towns - Kanpur, Bombay, Ahmedabad, Madras and Calcutta, among others.... Bihar had many. Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Sindri, Ranchi, Dalmianagar, Jamalpur, Barauni, etc. So, apart from the '90s misgovernance and the failure to ride the bandwagon of economic liberalisation, WHAT WENT WRONG? GD Goenka Patna’s kids singing a beautiful medley of traditional Bihari folk songs - Sohar, Chhath Song, Jagadamba Bhajan, Kajri, Chaiti, Haldi (wedding) song & finally a Jhijhiya song. We need more of this in schools to ensure our heritage truly stays & resonates with the next generation. Shared by Anubha Sinha ma'am on WA... I couldn't resist sharing it here.

It's easy to blame Pakistanis... but much of the animosity originates from prominent Indian right wing accounts... Giving you an example of one such account (screenshots). Beyond this hatred... our fight now is for equal economic treatment. We've faced injustices from all central govt, spanning from Nehru to Modi. While we acknowledge our own failure in governance (esp during the 90s) the extent of the Centre's role in Bihar's manufactured backwardness is staggering... I'm ready to engage in an objective, factual, data driven debate with anyone willing.

Last Saturday, while driving from Patna to my village in Champaran - one of the poorest regions in India's poorest state - I asked my son, who was busy playing Sudoku on phone, to take a few random shots of the roads instead... I wanted to show just how impossible travel is in this land India loves to hate.

This is Economic Times, an Indian English language newspaper that focuses on business, finance, economic & a few big national & international news. It also covers crime news from Purnia, Bihar. No such news coverage from any other state. Bihar, is apparently the ONLY place in India where crime exists… The rest of the country is living in a blissful, crime free utopia today. Who reads ET? It caters to an affluent demographic - business professionals, decision makers, investors & anyone interested in the Indian economy, international finance. So, the idea is to deter anyone from investing here. Bihar is bad. This is how a skewed narrative subtly but surely undermines the historical greatness of a place…. making you question and even dislike your own identity.

Some years ago, a senior expert and commentator on Bihar issues told me that Bihar had been mostly neglected due to different formations ruling in Delhi and the State, consequently hindering its ability to extract benefits. I disagreed. Had two reasons: one, Bihar politicians lack sub-nationalist feeling... so don't ask for much, and two, it doesn't matter who's ruling, Delhi is going to bulldoze our legitimate needs... I'll cite a recent case... While Tribhuvan Sahkari University in Gujarat received immediate legislative approval from the Lok Sabha recently, PM Modi, in 2017, openly turned down CM Nitish Kumar's plea to designate Patna University, once known as the Oxford of the East, as a Central university. Personally, I took that as an insult. The 'double-engine' model deliver for other states... but not for Bihar. Is it because we are seen as emotional fools.. easily polarised by caste and religion?
