My take on India Today Tamil with Akshita Nandagopal on the growing voices projecting TVK Vijay for PM: Anyone can aspire to become Prime Minister, but realistically, talking about 2029 is far-fetched at this stage. TVK's government is currently dependent on Congress support in Tamilnadu, and if TVK ministers continue making statements projecting Vijay for the national stage, it could create unnecessary friction between the two parties. That said, I do believe TVK Vijay has a long-term plan. Even the volume of Instagram reels and endorsements from North Indian influencers are not organic and the they have been managed by multiple agencies. Had TVK secured a clear majority in the Assembly elections, the situation would have been very different. A strong mandate in Tamilnadu would have given Vijay a much stronger foundation to start building a national profile. Look at Jayalalithaa in 2014 who had national aspirations. She openly positioned herself against PM Narendra Modi with the "Modi or this lady" pitch then. Has TVK taken a similarly clear political position against BJP? Not yet , despite having Congress as an alliance partner. Perhaps TVK wants to maintain a good relationship with the Centre to ensure smooth administrative functioning. Or perhaps this is a deliberate strategy to gradually build distance from BJP and turn more aggressive ahead of 2029. Either way, it's too early to seriously discuss a national ambition for 2029 when the party is still building its base in Tamilnadu, and was recently unable to even travel to Karnataka to negotiate the Cauvery issue.

The TVK Government's approach towards the Centre, and the future of Centre-State relations after TVK Vijay became Chief Minister, has become a talking point following today's NITI Aayog meeting. My reading is that TVK Vijay is currently adopting a strategic wait-and-watch approach towards the Union government. It may be confrontational on policy based issues, but is unlikely to directly attack the BJP politically or speak against the RSS in the manner the #DMK traditionally does. Its like "Okay, as long as Tamil Nadu is getting what it needs, I am happy. What is happening in Bengal or Jharkhand is not really my concern." The anti-BJP sentiment in #Tamilnadu has largely watered down, while the BJP itself remains politically limited in the state. TVK seems to understand this reality. For now, the party may maintain a balanced approach. However, as the 2029 elections draw closer, the tone could become sharper on policy matters. Given that the Congress is part of the alliance, there will also be expectations for CM TVK Vijay to take a more assertive stand against the BJP, though perhaps without making it a purely political confrontation. While the #DMK may choose to boycott 'this' meeting in which Congress is part of, it is likely to make every effort to isolate the Congress nationally, feeling that it was backstabbed by the party. At the same time, a national-level realignment is underway. Parties like the TMC still need the support of the Congress and other opposition parties to effectively take on the BJP at the national level since they lost their own state. As far as Tamilnadu is concerned, however, the 2029 election will largely depend on how TVK positions itself against the BJP , whether on policy, ideology, or political messaging. Simply having the Congress in the alliance will not automatically make TVK appear ideologically anti-BJP, nor will it organically transfer votes. A YSRCP or BJD-style model of 'maintaining distance' from the BJP, while keeping Congress as an ally may not necessarily work in Tamilnadu. #TNpolitics #tamilnaduelections

CM TVK Vijay is simultaneously trying to secure a stable majority for his government while also weakening both the DMK and AIADMK politically during the process. By seeking support from parties within the DMK alliance, Vijay is not only attempting to maintain the government safely above the majority mark, but also trying to strengthen his secular image politically. At the same time, by engaging with #DMK allies and potentially accommodating some of them politically, he indirectly weakens and isolates the DMK’s alliance structure itself. On the other side, his larger political objective appears to be the complete replacement of the #AIADMK space. He has already successfully triggered a visible split within the AIADMK and secured the support of 25 MLAs from the splinter faction. The continuing chaos within the AIADMK is indirectly helping TVK expand and emerge as the principal alternative force in that political space. Now, after the floor test is over and the government appears numerically secure, TVK Vijay may no longer necessarily require the continued political dependence on those 25 AIADMK MLAs, Which also means that he may not be under immediate pressure to reward them with cabinet berths, despite the earlier speculation and expectations. But a sense of uncertainty will always remain for this government and TVK will keep facing pressure from the DMK allies who joined TVK govt. Sooner or later, he may need to reconsider bringing the AIADMK MLAs into the cabinet for the longevity of the Government. My analysis on Thanthi TV TV. #TNpolitics

Chief Minister TVK Vijay is absorbing the political energy from the fading AIADMK and attempting to replace it entirely. He is arguably the one most actively trying to finish off the party politically, while simultaneously describing it as a "தீர்ந்து போன சக்தி" Tamilnadu is still very much in election mode, and it is likely to remain so until TVK secures a comfortable majority of its own. He may be the Chief Minister now, but he remains a politician first, and his Trichy speech demonstrated exactly that. And to be fair, any party in his position would probably be doing the same thing. But coming with the 'maatram' narrative and doing the same is still debatable. My view... #TNpolitics
