BECAUSE IT IS NOT “SIMPLE VOTER ID!” This should wake up Republican voters EVERYWHERE to the way they flat out lie to you about the laws they are trying to pass in your name. Absolutely inexcusable. Lying this blatantly to purposefully deceive the American public should be illegal.

TLDR; Fund state legislative races. Y’all, I love my party. I really do. So I am going to hold their hands when I say this. YOU ARE STILL DOING IT WRONG!!! While we are over here writing strongly worded letters and bleeding resources into picking up a US House seat here and there, Republicans broke the code decades ago. Who draws the maps? STATE LEGISLATURES!!! The GOP has been operating not so quietly in their quest to completely dominate state legislatures with the ultimate goal of gaining permanent control over the federal chambers. AND DEMOCRATS HAVE JUST LET THEM! I was on a strategy call earlier today and people are still moving like 2030 is the goal, and it’s cool if we grab a few seats this year towards a 2030 flip. That was a great strategy until the SCOTUS decision. Texas Republicans are already openly salivating at the idea of redistricting AGAIN in 2027 based on the VRA ruling. And not just federal house races - the state legislature as well. (Caps for emphasis) WE WILL NOT HAVE 2030 if we don’t take the Texas House NOW! There are so many strong candidates in a state environment that is the most favorable for Democrats in a generation and all Texas dollars are going to Talarico. Y’all, I love JT, but the DNC has GOT to focus! We’re over here holding our hats out hoping some pennies fall in and several of us are running in districts where the ONLY element missing is funding. We have a few thousand while Abbott has made sure to drop MILLIONS into our opponents accounts. Change the strategy and change it now. The video is long but worth it. Thank you for coming to my TedTweet.

Unchecked capitalism is the cause of the male loneliness epidemic and the radicalization of young men. Allow me to show my work. Capitalism is the best economic system in history, but it only works with guardrails. Strong unions, social safety nets, accessible housing and education, fair wages - these are all things America USED to have. It’s why families could survive on one income, and women who wanted to stay home could choose to. The days when men could work 40 hours at a blue collar job and support a family of four. That all changed with Reagan and supply side (AKA trickle down) economics. As things became more and more expensive, women were forced into the workforce. There was no other choice. I was a child during this transition. My mom WANTED to stay home with us. My family couldn’t afford it. I was part of the latchkey kid generation. But through the transition, men were still raised to believe that they were the breadwinner - that their only identity in life was to go to work and be a paycheck - and when rising costs and stagnant wages made that increasingly impossible, they automatically internalized that they were a failure. Enter the podcast bros. Instead of this being correctly labeled as society failing men AND families, they grifted on the idea that somehow women were to blame, and feminism was the devil. And while it’s true that women gained more freedom once they were able to get their own credit cards and apply for their own mortgages, it never meant that we stopped wanting love, children and families. But with the rise in popularity of the “blame women for everything” movement + the new freedoms, women did start to naturally shy away from traditional norms. Men hated us for not wanting them, then women hated men for not wanting women, and grifters capitalized on this growing divide by making content that has - quite honestly - RADICALIZED young men that they shouldn’t even try. Women are the enemy. They only want money. But since the world isn’t set up any longer for individual success, then it’s women’s fault, and everything sucks, and why even try? I’d be angry as fuck too. You want to un-radicalize young men? Bring back HOPE. Fix our system. Bring back our unions, bring back workers rights, provide education, support universal healthcare, build affordable housing. Let men and women BOTH know that they will have the tools to succeed in this country if they want to. Because no one has that now. The larger the gap grows, the more workers rights are stripped away in favor of corporate profits, the more hopeless we all become. Men shouldn’t be fighting to take away the rights of women - they should be fighting WITH US to restore opportunity for us ALL. This video touches on how the banner of “conservatism” has been a lie all along, and how “othering” has been so incredibly damaging to our country. STOP blaming us and JOIN us - because we ALL need our country back. Please excuse the frequent pauses, when I recorded this I had just been released from the hospital with pneumonia. 😬

Today the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill requiring that the Ten Commandments be placed in every classroom in the state. But it was the 15th Amendment on the bill, laid out by Nicole Collier that is something that every single person should hear - and should watch. You see, the language that has already been approved for these classroom posters is the language that is written in stone outside of our Texas State Capitol. And it includes “Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is his neighbor’s.” As Rep. Collier so eloquently articulated here, the terms “manservant” and “maidservant” are what they called slaves in the early days of America. Representative Collier filed an amendment simply asking that these terms be removed because of their historical meaning and significance, so that they would not come back into prominence and used against black students. Simple. A simple amendment. Her co-worker, Texas State Representative Candy Noble walked up to that microphone with a shit eating grin that only appears when a horrible person is about to say some horrible things and looked her co-worker in the eye and said “I love you, but you’re wrong, because I Googled it.” I will never know what it is like being a black person in America. I can listen, I will always strive to understand, and I will always fight, but I will never truly know. I do know what it means to be a GOOD person, however, and what I have shared below is just a tiny snippet of the pure disgusting evil that has permeated this entire Texas Legislative session. I am ashamed of my state, I am ashamed of my country, and I am ashamed honestly of my fellow white people who have chosen to ignore the uncomfortable realities of systemic racism, which by proxy have allowed women like Candy Noble to walk up and say what she said with a straight face. We can BE better, we can DO better. We HAVE to. And in case you are wondering, the motion to table the amendment passed - because of course it did. Maybe if there had been 15 commandments instead of ten, there would’ve been room in there to add one that said don’t be an insufferable ass hole. Because these people could definitely use *that* lesson.
