It's definatly incoming - new rules Intelligent Octopus Energy Go. My take home is we still get a MINIMUM of 6 hours offpeak for the house! If it's windy in the winter we could still get extra offpeak for the home. PLUS it's rare i need more than 6 hours EV charging! Load shifting helps reduce your home bills and obviously EV charging beats the pump saving in my case a couple of hundred a month!

My neighbour said that an EV isn't worth having now we have to pay road tax. I seriously wonder how many haven't realised how much money you can save on petrol -EV charging and your home energy bill when you swap to an EV? Mind boggles she's buying a new petrol car.

I save hundreds of pounds fueling my EV instead and filling a petrol or diesel car. I wake up with a full battery and a heated cabin. It reduces my overall energy bill at home too. I don't need me to add loans, depreciation to give an example of savings to cost per mile to give you an idea how cheap fueling an EV is. Your budget will be different to mine and your choice of vehicle too but the price per mile if you get a dedicated EV tariff like Octopus Energy intelligent go will be similar.

Imagine if you could pay £55 per month on EV charging instead of £245 on petrol or diesel. In 2025 I drove around 17,700 miles. 16% of my charging was down away from home. (Max 57p per kWh) Compared to fueling a petrol or diesel car i saved around £2,284! Octopus Energy 🫡

Should all new build homes come installed with a full roof of solar and battery storage? Today Ingenerated 29 kWh of energy. (by sunset it was more 😃) I exported 24 kWh to the grid. I imported 5.5 kWh off-peak before 5.30am. It's mind boggling how much i saved compared to Energy Price Cap! Yes, i know i have a good cheap offpeak rate thanks to having an EV but even without that it is well worth paying attention to the possibilities. It is only April!!!
