They are literally like rats 🐀 everywhere The belief among many of those who crossed into Ceuta is that if they can avoid being returned for seven days, they will have a pathway deeper into Spain and the rest of Europe. Whether that belief is accurate or not, it is clearly driving behaviour. Everywhere you look there are groups of young men hiding in the hills, sleeping in the forests, climbing the rocks and even sheltering in cemeteries, waiting and hoping to avoid detection long enough to move on. The scale of what I witnessed was astonishing. This isn’t just a local issue for Ceuta. It’s a warning of the pressure Europe’s borders are facing and the consequences of policies that many believe are failing to deter illegal entry.

I interviewed one of the young men who crossed into Ceuta in the mass border surge at the weekend. He and many others told me the same story they believed that if they could stay inside the enclave for about seven days, they would then get the chance to move to mainland Spain once there, free movement across Europe. Thousands of men arrived at the same time this wasn’t random. Messages and videos had been circulating on social media telling people exactly when to gather and that the border would be easier to cross. They said the gates would effectively be open from around 9 in the morning until 11 at night. Being Morocco’s Throne Day, when the King traditionally issues royal pardons. That coincidence, combined with the coordinated social media information, is why many of them described it as organised rather than spontaneous. This was Sunday whilst at the border where the mainstream media portrays “everyone has gone home” and there is “nothing to see”. MSM= LIARS The reality on the ground cannot be reduced to a few headlines or a carefully edited report. The people who live here, the communities affected, and those who are actually present are seeing a very different picture. The truth deserves to be reported, not hidden.
