A lot of people think because I work in adult entertainment that love can’t be real for me. The same people think big men date whoever they can get. Both of those narratives are wrong. Truth is, he didn’t seek me. I saw him first and initiated what became us. Let that also remind you that big men are more than capable of being desired and chosen. I’m with him because I want to be, and he’s with me because he wants to be. That’s alignment, not settling. #BigMenAreDesired #AlignmentOverSettling #LoveWithoutLimits #Standing10Toes #ChosenNotSettled And baby I know I agreed not to post our personal life on my X, but I had to let these hoes know how I’m coming behind you ✍🏾

✨ What a night to remember ✨ Everything I dreamed of for my birthday dinner — the atmosphere, the love in the room, the laughter — came to life right before my eyes. The introduction of my Beneath the Surface podcast made the evening even more magical, but the true highlight was witnessing my niece say “yes” to forever. 💍 It’s proof that when you dare to envision something beautiful and work to bring it to life, the universe meets you halfway. A night of new beginnings, fulfilled dreams, and memories we’ll carry for a lifetime. 💚✨ #BeneathTheSurface #MagicalMoments #NewChapters

This side of my life has been the scariest side to tell. And I understand the judgment that comes with it. I’m a public figure who has worked in the sex industry, so I already know what some people are going to think when they hear HIV, sex work, and unprotected sex in the same story. For some, the conclusion will be immediate: careless. Reckless. Irresponsible. And truthfully, if I had never stood in these shoes, never lived this life, and was only looking at it from the outside, I might have some of those same thoughts. So I’m not asking anybody to abandon their judgment just because this is my story. I understand where some of it comes from. Did I lack judgment during some of those encounters? Yes. Did I always exercise the level of accountability that I should have? No. I can admit that without running from it, minimizing it, or dressing it up to make myself more comfortable. But accountability also means being truthful about the entire story, not allowing the most uncomfortable part of it to create a narrative that isn't true. I have had many sexual encounters and personal relationships with people who were HIV-negative then and remain HIV-negative today. So while I understand the criticism surrounding some of my decisions, let's not turn my honesty into a narrative that I was out here passing HIV to people. That has never been my story. Ever. I can take accountability for my choices without accepting responsibility for anyone else’s reality. There is a human being behind every decision you're judging. Being a sex worker never meant I didn't care about myself or the people I encountered sexually. Living with HIV doesn't automatically make someone a danger to others. Human beings are complicated. Fear is complicated. Sex is complicated. Disclosure is complicated. And sometimes our decisions don't reflect what we know to be right. None of that erases accountability. I know some of y'all are going to tear me to shreds after hearing this part of my story. And I receive it. I understand the questions. I understand the disappointment. I even understand the anger. But there are so many people like me walking around this world right now, people carrying secrets they're terrified to say out loud because they believe the moment they tell the truth, the world will strip them of their humanity. And perhaps if the world were a little more willing to understand before it condemned, just maybe more people would feel safe enough to tell the truth. Maybe more people would disclose. Maybe more people would get tested. Maybe more people would have the difficult conversations. Maybe fewer people would believe silence is their only protection. Understanding doesn't mean excusing someone's actions. Grace doesn't erase accountability. But accountability shouldn't require someone to accept every accusation or assumption placed upon them either. I refuse to believe the worst decision someone has made should become the entire definition of who they are. If I was going to call this chapter REBIRTH, then I couldn't only show you the parts of me that were easy to celebrate. I had to introduce you to the man whose decisions I had to confront, forgive, learn from, and ultimately become better than. This isn't me asking you not to judge me. It's me finally being strong enough to tell the truth knowing that you might and hoping that somewhere, someone who sees themselves in my story realizes that accountability, honesty, growth and humanity can all exist in the same person. I hope this message serves you all well ✍🏾🤍

One thing I want people to understand is that I knew what came with telling my story. The judgment, criticism, questions, and even the false narratives. I knew people would have their opinions, and I was prepared for that. But I never wanted anybody to think that because I shared something so personal, I was going to go into hiding afterward. I'm not speaking from a place of shame, but from a place of understanding, growth, and accountability. I know where I was wrong. I've acknowledged it, I've apologized, and I understand the seriousness of the decisions I've made. But I've also learned that taking accountability doesn't mean you have to spend the rest of your life condemning yourself. You can recognize your mistakes, learn from them, and still find peace within yourself. I genuinely understand why some of y'all feel the way you do. Had I never experienced this reality myself, I probably would've shared some of those same perspectives. And that's why I don't take every disagreement personally. Our perspectives are shaped by our life experiences, and sometimes it's difficult to fully understand something you've never had to live through. My intention was never to have people rally behind me or excuse my decisions. I simply wanted to create a conversation that goes beyond judgment. There's still so much fear and misinformation surrounding HIV, and unfortunately, that keeps a lot of people from feeling comfortable enough to share their own experiences. I know my story won't change everybody's opinion of me, and I've accepted that. But if it helps even one person become more informed, more understanding, or less afraid, then sharing it served a purpose beyond myself. REBIRTH was me finding the strength to tell my story. THE AFTERMATH is an opportunity to bring more understanding to it. You don't have to agree with everything I've done to understand where I'm coming from. Just as I can acknowledge your perspective, all I ask is that you make an effort to understand mine. I'm still learning, still growing, still taking accountability, and most importantly, still at peace. Because ain't no freedom like the freedom of being FREE. 🤍 — Donovan Sykes #Rebirth #TheAftermath #BeneathTheSurface #HIVAwareness #LivingInMyTruth

Sometimes people don’t look for the truth, they look for somewhere to place the blame. I learned that firsthand. When someone believes there’s a person they can point to, especially someone whose circumstances make them an easy target, suddenly everything gets placed at that person’s feet. Not necessarily because the facts say it belongs there, but because having someone to blame can feel easier than confronting the possibility that you simply don’t know where something came from. And I want to be clear about something else: I understand how people can hear my story and see my decision not to disclose my status as reckless, and I absolutely agree wholeheartedly. I’m not sharing my story to excuse that decision or pretend that I handled everything perfectly. I can look back now and acknowledge where I was wrong. That is part of accountability, growth, and being honest about the person I was at that time. But that experience also taught me why knowing your own health matters so much. I knew how I took care of myself. I knew when I was tested. I knew my results. And ultimately, the truth spoke for itself. The bigger lesson wasn’t about being right or proving someone wrong. It was realizing how quickly assumption can become accusation when people are afraid and looking for answers. I can acknowledge where I was wrong without accepting responsibility for something that wasn’t mine. Both truths can exist at the same time. Sometimes the person who seems easiest to blame isn’t the person responsible. That’s why we have to be careful with people’s names, their stories, and their lives. Before you give someone the weight of your fear, make sure it actually belongs to them. 🎙️ Beneath the Surface Full conversation on YouTube: I Am Donovan Sykes #BeneathTheSurface #Accountability #KnowYourStatus #Growth #Rebirth
