There's dummied out code that exists in Sonic 1 for when Sonic runs into a wall, where it will attempt to stop Sonic in the direction he's moving, and then move him upwards. It works best when he's on the floor, where he will climb up the wall. Otherwise, it's pretty broken.

In the original Sega CD version of Sonic CD, after you beat Metal Sonic in Stardust Speedway, there are 2 ways to end the stage. The obvious one is to let Amy hug you. The other is to walk to the left and wait about 10 seconds after freeing her.
