Meet the next-generation approach to cancer treatment. 💊🌟 Switchable CAR-T (sCAR-T) is a programmable immunotherapy designed to give scientists and clinicians greater control over how—and when—the immune system attacks cancer. This modular CAR-T platform activates engineered immune cells only in the presence of an antibody “switch.” Without the switch, the cells remain inactive, an approach designed to improve precision and lifespan, while potentially reducing the risk of uncontrolled immune responses. Scientists at Scripps Research’s drug development division, Calibr-Skaggs Institute for Innovative Medicines, have completed a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating the safety of the sCAR-T platform (CLBR001) paired with a CD19-targeted switch (SWI019) for B-cell malignancies (NCT04450069). Initial results announced underscore the potential of this therapy. The technology is now being tested in a Phase 1 clinical trial for metastatic breast cancer, with an additional Phase 1 trial for autoimmune diseases launching this year. #WorldCancerDay #CancerResearch #Immunotherapy #BreastCancerResearch #ClinicalTrials
