🎉SUNDAY USDA UNSUNG HERO🎉 Some of the most important work at Dept. of Agriculture happens behind the scenes, carried out by incredible people who show up day after day, year after year, decade after decade, administration after administration. It has been one of the most unexpected and inspiring parts of this job over the last 20 months. These servant leaders who work for our farmers tirelessly, who never complain, who smile through different bosses every 4 (or less) years. These are our career staff at USDA — and one of the greatest honors of my life will be working alongside them these short four years. I wanted to do something to recognize their heart and their game changing work… so we announced the first ever USDA UNSUNG HERO AWARD a few months ago. Just a small recognition for a lifetime of work. But that recognition, including taking our winners to the White House, has been such a blessing to me. The one and only LeTonya Mann is one of our true Unsung Heroes. ❤️🇺🇸 If you have spent any time in our building, chances are you know LeTonya. She is truly loved by all, and I am personally so grateful for the warmth, joy, and positive spirit she brings to USDA every single day. She actually slept in her car so she wouldn’t be late for our trip to the White House!!! For countless members of our team, LeTonya is one of the very first people they meet when arriving at USDA. She has transformed our onboarding experience — bringing together everything from HR, payroll, and ethics to USDA’s history and mission, ALL while making every new member of our team feel welcomed, prepared, and immediately part of the USDA family. She has also been an incredible partner to our Center for Faith, supporting important initiatives including the launch of the USDA National Prayer Shield. LeTonya, your heart for service and commitment to the people around you do not go unnoticed. You are the best of the best and I am just so grateful to be on YOUR TEAM!! Congratulations on this incredibly well deserved recognition! We love you!!!

Today’s announcement is a major step toward restoring American fertilizer production and reducing our reliance on foreign suppliers. 🇺🇸 Through Dept. of Agriculture investments and partnerships, the projects announced today are expected to increase domestic fertilizer production by nearly 4.5 million tons annually — helping support roughly 400,000 producers and 290 million acres of farmland across the country. For too long, farmers have faced rising input costs and supply chain disruptions driven by global instability and over-dependence on imports. Expanding domestic production helps strengthen our food security, lower costs for producers, and keep American agriculture competitive. 📍 Santa Teresa, New Mexico Today I toured the busiest livestock port on the US-Mexico border and met directly with ranchers and key officials about the work that has gone into protecting the American livestock industry from New World screwworm, and next steps moving forward. For 16 months, livestock ports along our southern border have remained closed as we built out an unprecedented response, strengthened surveillance, and worked with our partners to stop the spread of this devastating pest. Dept. of Agriculture’s phased reopening strategy has been tied to continued progress and layered safeguards designed to protect the US herd. That execution is producing results. And today’s visit was about making sure we keep protecting American livestock as trade resumes safely. We took a moment to reflect that after 100 days, we have only 2 active cases in our country. To compare… in 1972 — our ranchers (in Texas alone) faced more than 90,000 NWS cases that year. That level of concentration has surged from just 25% in 1977 to 71% by 1992, and now to an astonishing 85%. Together, these companies operate through dozens of subsidiary businesses, creating a landscape that leaves many of our cattle producers with limited marketing options. For some ranchers this means less marketing opportunities, complicating an already challenging marketplace. We must work to address this to protect our ranchers and consumers. President Donald J. Animal welfare is the law, and we are enforcing it. 🐾🇺🇸 Secretary Kennedy and I brought together partners from Dept. of Agriculture, HHS, the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. EPA, and Lara Trump to strengthen enforcement and protect dogs. This year, USDA has inspected more than 2,000 dog breeder and broker facilities, trained 98 inspectors, and created a new Animal Protection Bureau to improve compliance and address violations. HHS has launched more than 20 initiatives to reduce unnecessary animal testing and advance human-based research methods. I want to give a special thank you to Lauree Simmons, Big Dog Ranch Rescue, and other organizations who champion this important effort. President Donald J.
