The lawyer representing TikTok’s content creators argued today that if Congress were really concerned about data security, why wouldn’t it also seek to regulate Chinese-owned apps like Temu and Shein? But some legal experts say if TikTok is eventually banned, Chinese-owned apps in the US like Shein and Temu could be next in line. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar said there is “evidence in the record” that Bytedance has “misappropriated” data at the Chinese government’s request.
