Today on ANZAC Day, I want to remember my pop, Corporal Harry Thorpe. Many First Nations men fought for this country in WWI and WW2, however their names, sacrifices, and final resting places are often forgotten, ignored or unknown to their families.

It comes as no surprise that my Genocide Bill was voted down by the major parties. The rejection of the bill speaks to the colonial and genocidal interests of this government, with Labor and the Coalition protecting their political interests over international justice.

Big companies like Qantas and Bunnings use prison labour. People in prison are working for these companies under slave-like conditions for as little as $2 an hour. Governments enable this and profit from it too. Labor needs to raise pay for prisoners to at least minimum wage.

Pregnant women who are incarcerated have no access to care. Stillbirths and miscarriages are common. The responsible Ministers are aware yet do nothing to ensure the rights of the mother and child. We all must demand that this injustice is addressed before more harm is done.
