I voted for Mattis. I voted for Esper. But Hegseth has never led thousands of people, like Mattis had. He never ran the entire Army, like Esper did. No, the only things Hegseth has ever run, he’s run into the ground. For these reasons and more, I will vote no.

Today, I voted in support of a resolution that would force Trump to get congressional approval before using military force against Venezuela. Senate Republicans blocked it—ceding their constitutional authority to Trump. Once again, they bent the knee to a wanna-be king.

Every day, our servicemembers live by the Soldier’s Creed—the words displayed behind me. How can we ask our troops to train to the highest standard if we confirm a guy who wants us to lower the standard to make him Secretary of Defense? Pete Hegseth must step aside.

Our troops deserve a Commander in Chief who does right by them. Not one that throws them into an unjustified war with no plan and no end state—and works to hollow out the VA.

It's time for Pete Hegseth to let the military get back to its actual job and stop forcing it to do DHS's. If he wants to be DHS Secretary, he can apply for it once he's fired from the job he has due to his incompetence.

Pete Hegseth proved again and again that he does not have the qualifications, the breadth of knowledge or the moral fiber to lead the greatest military on the face of the earth. Nearly every single Republican voted to confirm him anyway. Our nation deserves better.

Tomorrow, my Republican colleagues have a decision to make. Will they put our military and our country ahead of their loyalty to Donald Trump? We cannot afford to confirm someone as dangerously unqualified as Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense.

If it was really about celebrating military families, we could put $30 million toward helping them offset the cost of their child care, food assistance and tuition… But it isn't. Trump is throwing himself a $30 million birthday parade just to stroke his own ego.

It's disgusting that even as our troops do their jobs, Trump and Republicans are so eager to neglect their own. End this war. Now.

Pete Hegseth and every single other official on that Signal chain should lose their jobs. They must answer for this egregious national security breach.

To my Republican colleagues who voted against my Right to IVF Act: I wish you luck excusing your vote to your constituents who rely on IVF to have a family. Shame on you.
