This week, I stood for the first time on the Senate floor and said to Democrats and Republicans: we are not being honest with the American people when we pretend that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid don’t need reform. We must stop kicking the can down the road. Washington’s addiction to spending is not compassionate—it’s irresponsible. Utahns understand thrift, hard work, and the importance of living within your means. It’s time Congress did too. Moody’s didn’t issue a warning. They rang the alarm. Let’s answer it—with fiscal honesty and the courage to do hard things.

I just toured Milford Mine in Utah—an incredible copper extraction operation. Unfortunately, most U.S. copper gets shipped overseas, mainly to China, because we no longer have the capacity to refine it. When we outsource industry, we lose control over quality and environmental standards. It’s time to bring refining back home—to Utah and America.

Utah’s environmental challenges require thoughtful solutions that necessitate input from our local communities. That’s why I was grateful to have U.S. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin here in Utah today. While meeting with state and community leaders, we were able to cover a lot of ground on priorities that both protect the environment and grow the economy, like permitting reform and reducing emissions.

Utah’s environmental challenges require thoughtful solutions that necessitate input from our local communities. That’s why I was grateful to have U.S. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin here in Utah today.
