Iran is a regime that can't be trusted, and it’s certainly demonstrating that right now. If Operation Midnight Hammer didn’t convince the Ayatollah that President Donald J. Trump is serious, then additional measures may be necessary. The only realistic way to enforce any nuclear agreement would be through a very transparent process. Even then, it’s hard to imagine the Iranian regime becoming part of the civilized world, given that it remains controlled by religious zealots—a reality we cannot afford to ignore.

The latest Iranian proposal to remove the blockade in the hopes of talking about their nuclear ambitions is ridiculous. President Donald J. Trump' number one goal is to ensure Iran never has nuclear weapons. The President prefers a peaceful resolution going forward, but he shouldn’t be afraid to use his leverage.

Democrats wasted four weeks insisting on keeping the government shut down because as Bernie Sanders says, "if we reopen the government, we lose our leverage." They see paying federal workers and service members as leverage to get partisan policies passed. If they can't get on board with Senator Ron Johnson's bill to pay essential federal workers, it will be telling.

The Republican-passed WFTC not only lowers tax rates, provides more deductions and credits, and incentivizes small businesses to invest and hire. It enhances 529 education savings accounts, establishes savings accounts for newborns, and creates new school choice tax credits. You can't expect the partisan Trump haters at the Forum to tell you about the many accomplishments of the WFTC for North Dakotans.

I think we've all learned through history there's no political party or institution that benefits from a government shutdown. I don't know what the outcome will be in terms of a compromise. The cleaner the continuing resolution, the better. We need to move on with the business of appropriating through regular order.
