A 59-year-old woman, Soudamini Mahala, was fatally attacked by a saltwater crocodile while washing clothes in the Kharasrota river near Bankupala village under the Jajpur forest range. The crocodile dragged her into the water, leaving her severely injured. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, adds to rising crocodile-related risks in the riverside villages of Kendrapada and Jajpur. Authorities recovered her body and sent it for autopsy, while the forest department announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the bereaved family.
