my theory is that the backrooms are a metaphor for unresolved trauma and the way it slowly consumes the mind. think of your brain like a computer with a corrupted file. you can delete it, but traces of it always remain. the backrooms represent rediscovering that "corrupted file"—old trauma, guilt, or mistakes you never truly moved on from. the more you revisit them, the more they consume you, which is why Clark eventually stops wanting to leave. i also think Clark luring Mary into the backrooms symbolizes how unresolved trauma can pull others into the same cycle, leaving everyone trapped in their own #Backrooms
