“If an experiment in private enterprise is unsuccessful, people lose money and they have to close it down. If an experiment in government is unsuccessful, it’s always expanded.”

Workers Didn't Get the Weekend Because of Socialists. They Got It Because of Capitalism. Henry Ford gave his workers a 5-day week in 1926. Why? Rested workers were more productive. People with leisure time spent more money. Then, other companies followed. By 1938, when the government codified the 40-hour week, it was just catching up. Competition for labor and rising productivity did the work.

Ayn Rand was just casually giving a lecture when someone hit her with, ‘Why do you hate poor people?’ Her response was way more savage than you’d expect.

“The most dangerous institutions today are universities because they teach ideas that will lead to the destruction of the United States.” Ayn Rand said this in the 1960s… and it feels even more true today.

So who do you think knows what a dignified life looks like for you, you or a planner who has zero idea about basic supply and demand?

Thomas Sowell: “The Soviet Union was one of the most richly supplied countries with natural resources—and probably the most richly supplied... The irony is, one of the world’s great famines occurred in the Soviet Union... Milton Friedman once said that if the government took over the Sahara Desert, there’d be a shortage of sand. The Soviet Union was just that way.”

Milton Friedman explains why you should prefer freedom over fairness. “Fairness” means someone else is deciding for you what is “fair.” “Freedom” means that YOU get to make that decision.

Why do “intellectuals” drift toward socialism? Hayek explains that, contrary to what many intellectuals believe, society cannot be controlled through central planning. People have their own desires, virtues, and moral convictions, they are not pieces on a chessboard.
