In 1997, #Eminem went to Los Angeles to complete in the Rap Olympics, a competition he desperately needed and wanted to win, but ultimately lost. This is what he had to say, in 2020, about the loss, but also, what happened after. ‘I come off stage. I'm like, that's it. It's over for me. This kid from Interscope, Dean Geistlinger, walks over and he asks me for a copy of the CD. So I kind of just chuck it at him. It was The Slim Shady EP. We come back to Detroit, I have no fucking home, no idea what I'm gonna do. Then, a couple weeks later, we get a call. Marky Bass said, ‘Yo, we got a call from a doctor!’

This freestyle gets posted now and then, and it’s dope af, but it always reminds me that if you somehow manage to ever have one friendship like this, you’re winning at life. 🩷 #Eminem & Proof - MTV Car Freestyle (1999) 🔥

#Eminem played the Voodoo Music & Arts experience in New Orleans for the first time on October 28, 2000. The timing was interesting. Eminem was booked early, just before his career blew up with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP earlier in the year. Because of his massive popularity surge, attendance increased from the 18,000 attendees in the first year of the festival to over 65,000 in 2000. He always could draw a crowd… #Eminem - Marshall Mathers (Voodoo New Orleans, 2000) 🎤

#Eminem (MC Double M) - Blown Away (1988) Contains a sample of the film The Shining, and is probably the first known recording of an Eminem ‘storytelling’ song. Age 16.
