Some mysteries of nature never cease to amaze us. Just like every year, Kashmir witnessed snowfall on the eve of Mahashivratri—a tradition that has continued unbroken for thousands of years. For the past two months, winter had been dry, with no snowfall, raising fears of water shortages and hardship. Yet, as if in divine synchrony, Herath—Mahashivratri in Kashmiri—brought with it the long-awaited snow, a symbol of abundance and renewal. It has happened every single year of my life and every Kashmiri, be it Hindu or Muslim, knows that it will snow on Herath, come what may! Spirituality, sustainability, syncretic heritage, and living traditions—all intertwined in a single moment. What else can one call it but divine grace? #Mahashivratri
