Our UDF ally, the Muslim League, built houses for the victims of the Wayanad landslide. Wonderful. And here’s the other heartwarming part of the story: the housewarming ceremonies for their (predominantly non-Muslim) beneficiaries. (See video). Can the rest of India ever learn to be like Kerala? Some of you had asked how we carried out the ‘Scan Me’ campaign. Was pleased to have partnered with Flam , a pioneer of tech-enabled mass communication that innovatively uses Mixed Reality tech. Video below shows how cards could be scanned to access campaign messages:

This is the corner just outside my home in Lutyens’ Delhi. Woke up to find my entire home under a foot of water — every room. Carpets and furniture, indeed anything on the ground, ruined. Apparently the storm water drains in the neighbourhood are all clogged so the water had no place to go. And they switched off the electricity since 6 am for fear of electrocuting people. Warned my Parliament colleagues that I might not make it there without a boat. But the city managed to pump water out of the roads and I did arrive in time!

Yesterday, I visited the magnificent BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, some 90 miles from Dubai and 60 from the capital of the UAE, in the middle of the desert. It was an extraordinary experience, which I spoke about with the head of the Mandir, Swami Brahma Vihari Das. While his questions are missing from my replies, this video, skilfully edited to incorporate visuals of my visit, says more than I can in a tweet. Do watch:

Yesterday, 16th Aug, 2025 (Saturday), was celebrated as Bhagwan Sri Krishna #Janmashthami across India — except in the state of Kerala! The Malayalam calendar shows this year’s Janmashthami date as 14th Sept, 2025(Sunday), NOT yesterday. Can anybody enlighten me as to why this is so? Surely even a Bhagwan can’t be born on two different days six weeks apart! Is there a case for rationalising the dates of religious holidays so that all adherents of a faith can celebrate with their fellow believers at the same time? After all, Keralites don’t observe a different Christmas!

What I actually said vs what the media reported! I specifically stated (& this was before the Opposition had taken a stand on the Bill) that I had not studied the bill but that on the face of it I could see nothing wrong with the proposition that wrongdoers should resign their ministerial positions. I added that I was neither supporting nor opposing the bill without studying it. I see the media has done their usual thing:

Encounters on the Vande Bharat are often pleasant, but rarely this illuminating! I had the pleasure of meeting Raul John Aju, a 16-year-old tech whiz who is doing incredible work in the field of Artificial Intelligence. We spoke about the necessity for AI to transcend borders and, crucially, to speak the vernacular of our diverse land. It was heartening to learn that Raul and his team (including a friend named Ishaan—a name that certainly rings a bell in my household!) are already building systems capable of voice processing in Malayalam, Hindi, and Urdu. Witnessing such ingenuity and drive in our youth gives me immense hope for India’s technological future. Wishing Raul and his team every success. It is young minds like his that will define India's 21st-century growth story.

Thrilled about Jammu&Kashmir’s historic triumph in the #RanjiTrophy. A heartwarming moment for all genuine fans of Indian cricket. This season has been a saga for the ages — but congratulations also to all those who toiled for years to get them there! MithunManhas5

For the first time in India (at least as far as anyone can remember!), Kerala’s outgoing ChiefSecretary, Dr V, Venu, handed over the CS’s post to his wife, Sarada Murlidharan, at a formal handover ceremony at the secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. Both are IAS officers of the 1990 batch but Venu is several months older than his wife, who is next in seniority in the service. A clip of the ceremony: the government was able to economise on the bouquet!

Yesterday was #Onam, and my sister and I hosted a traditional "sadhya" (obtained from the magnificent Mahabelly restaurant) for my Delhi team! It was great to share stories about the festival and treat folks from seven different North Indian states to delicious Kerala fare

Where in Bharatiya Sanskriti are young men taught to abuse, slap, and kick an elderly gentleman? Have we reached the stage, thanks to the viral toxin of bigotry and hatred spread by the BJP and the ruling establishment linked to it, that the prevailing ethos normalises such abuse of the old, so long as they happen to be Muslim? Such people as the young men in this revolting video are unworthy of calling themselves Indian when they have shown zero grounding in our culture and values. I hope they were disbarred from writing the Police entrance examination that they were travelling to Mumbai to appear for.
