In January 2025 two Chinese women out shopping in Kobe and inadvertently stopped inside the railroad crossing and were hit by a train. The driver of the train wasn’t able to see them as they were behind a pole. Their families are suing the train company for $900,000 in damages as the signage was unclear. Since 2009 there have been four other incidents at this crossing, including one death.
