The Virtual Trade Corridor powered by MAITRI (Master Application for International Trade & Regulatory Interface) was operationalised on 15th May 2026 during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to the UAE. India’s push towards Maritime Amrit Kaal is not a new development, but a continuation of its rich shipbuilding heritage. Ancient India had its own systems and techniques for crafting large vessels, which were used to undertake long voyages across seas and oceans. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is committed to restoring the legacy of these ancient knowledge systems, a testament to which is the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat. As Indians, we should feel immense pride today, knowing that a stitched ship has just been commissioned into the Indian Navy as INSV Kaundinya. This vessel reflects the deep engineering knowledge that Bharat has long possessed and serves as a reminder for us to strive to protect and preserve this legacy.
