Religious hatred in all its forms must be condemned. To call Islamophobia “made-up” dismisses thousands of real incidents — like Mohammed Saleem, among many others, murdered for being Muslim, and the Belfast Islamic Centre, attacked during prayer. You cannot fight hatred by pretending it doesn’t exist.

Let me be clear: ILR changes should never punish the hard workers who want to call Britain home and leave them open to exploitation. They are the backbone of our NHS and every essential service we rely on. Why is our Government turning its back on those who keep our society running?

I have submitted a bill to parliament for the UK to formally recognise the state of Palestine, this would be a significant step in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people. The time for Palestine and Palestinians is now. As Israel has done everything in its capacity to destroy any chance of Palestinian statehood – through settlement, land theft, and now the wholesale decimation of Gaza – British recognition will serve to reinforce the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination, which cannot be vetoed by Israel. This would further ensure a path to peace for everyone in the region and the world, and would not come at the expense of any community. In May countries across the world were joined by Spain, Ireland and Norway to officially recognise a Palestinian state. There are 146 of the 193 members of the United Nations that recognise Palestine as a state, the UK must align with these nations to support peace and justice in the region. The bill will be debated on 29 November and has cross party support and has been co-sponsored by: Siân Berry MP, Ian Byrne MP, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Stephen Gethins MP, Adnan Hussain MP, Kim Johnson MP, Ayoub Khan MP, Iqbal Mohamed MP, Brendan O’Hara MP and Liz Saville-Roberts MP. I urge you all to write to your MP to be part of the debate and support the bill.

Hundreds of worshippers have been blocked, harassed or denied entry to Al-Aqsa. I raised this with the Government months ago and received no response. And now, Al-Aqsa is completely shut to worshippers and not a single person has visited this month. This is a deliberate assault on faith and freedom and must be challenged at the highest level.

One of my first acts as an MP was tabling an amendment to the King’s Speech to scrap the two-child benefits cap. For too long, Labour dragged their feet while 109 children a day fell into poverty under their watch. But today, that changed - the cap has been abolished. Finally. I’ll continue working cross-party to ensure tackling child poverty remains an absolute priority.

We must have an immediate stop to ALL Israeli arms exports. I joined cross-party MPs in Westminster Hall to debate a petition signed by more than 100,000 people calling for an arms embargo. I queried the role the UK Cyprus Airbase is playing with reported unmarked US planes landing and taking off to make trips to Israel. We need answers, action and sanctions.
