A Pastoralist Dropout in the City
Videos

Did the Moi regime (1978 -2002) intentionally dump and bury toxic waste in Northern Kenya? If so, as explained by Cyrus Jirongo, then this claim should be investigated. The prevalence of throat cancer in Northern Kenya is higher than the rest of Kenya and the toxic substances are believed to be the precursor. The perpetrators of this heinous crime should be identified and, if possible, punished. The victims should get reparation.

Kamau checks into a hotel and pays KSh 3,000 for a room. Hotel manager Ouma quickly uses that same 3,000 to pay the butcher what he owes. The butcher then takes the 3,000 to settle his debt with the farmer. The farmer, in turn, walks straight to Ouma and pays his outstanding hotel bill — also 3,000. Moments later, Kamau comes back to the reception, saying he doesn’t like the room and asks for a refund. Ouma returns the same 3,000 to him. And just like that, every debt in the chain is cleared, stress-free — and Kamau still walks away with his money. A perfect little economic miracle 😂🤣

I was honored to be invited by the President of Somaliland to attend his inauguration on the 12th of December 2024. The event, which brought together hundreds of attendees, including diplomats, political leaders from neighboring countries, and citizens of Somaliland, was truly remarkable. The newly elected President's speech emphasized his commitment to dialogue and the importance of fostering social cohesion within Somaliland. I would like to share my experience in Somaliland, especially for those who have never visited 1. *Hargeisa:Hargeisa’s Peace and Vibrancy* Hargeisa is a peaceful city where people go about their lives with focus and purpose. The city is bustling with commercial activities, and it is clear that the residents are optimistic about the future. During my visit, I witnessed a strong community spirit and a collective determination to transform the economy. 2. Somaliland’s Investment Potentia l My visit to Berbera showcased the transformative power of investment. The development of Berbera Port by DP World has injected substantial capital into the region, making it one of the largest and most efficient ports in the Horn of Africa. The port handles millions of metric tonnes of goods and has completely revitalized the city, opening up vast economic opportunities. Opportunities for Local and International Investors Somaliland is primed for investment, not just from its diaspora but also from the international community. The region's strategic location and stability make it an ideal destination for business. 2. Untapped Regional Markets There is immense potential for investment in manufacturing, given the untapped markets in neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, Yemen, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Oman. With the right infrastructure, Somaliland can become a hub for trade and industry in the region. 4. Hospitality and Tourism Growth The people of Somaliland are incredibly hospitable, which creates opportunities for growth in the hospitality sector. Towns like Hargeisa have the potential to become international conference destinations, further boosting tourism and economic activity. Somaliland offers a unique blend of peace, opportunity, and optimism, making it an attractive destination for those seeking to explore its vast potential.
