Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Ḥasbunallāhu wa niʿmal wakīl. Indeed, Allah has exposed what was hidden in the darkness. The underground plots, the poisonous hatred, and the evil intentions of some among our own people have now been brought to light. It is heartbreaking and deeply painful that fellow Igbos would conspire, instigate, and openly call for the harm of their own brothers and sisters simply because they chose to worship Allah and embrace Islam. This voice note circulating on social media where one Mazi Kanayo incites and instructs Igbos to eliminate any Igbo who accepts Islam is not only wicked, it is an assault on humanity, conscience, and the sacred bond of our shared identity. It is a reminder of how dangerous ignorance can become when hatred replaces reason and compassion. We, the Igbos who believe in and practice Islam, reject fear, intimidation, threats, and oppression. We reject every attempt to silence us or erase our existence. Our faith does not make us strangers in our own land. Our belief does not strip us of our identity, dignity, or rights. Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right. We have the right to believe, to practice, and to peacefully propagate our faith just as others do, within the bounds of mutual respect and coexistence. Islam teaches peace, justice, patience, and mercy, and we will not abandon these values even in the face of hostility. May Allah, the Most Just and the All-Seeing, protect His servants, expose every evil plot, and turn the hearts of our people away from hatred and violence. May He strengthen the oppressed, grant safety to the innocent, and uphold truth over falsehood. May Allah Azza wa Jalla continue to protect Islam and Muslims wherever they are. Freedom of Religion or Belief: A Fundamental Human Right Freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental human right guaranteed by international conventions and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Every individual has the right to hold, practice, express, and peacefully propagate his or her religion or belief, openly and publicly, without fear, intimidation, or discrimination. In this 21st century an era defined by technology and social media individuals, groups, companies, organizations, and both governmental and non-governmental bodies freely utilize digital platforms to create awareness, educate the public, and broadcast their programmes and values. Religious engagement and propagation in the public space have therefore become a normal and accepted part of modern society. In this same spirit, we, the Muslims of South-Eastern Nigeria, affirm our lawful and peaceful right to practice and propagate Islam. We should not be silenced, intimidated, threatened, or attacked for carrying out our legitimate religious activities in a peaceful and responsible manner. Our faith teaches wisdom, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence, and this remains the foundation of our engagement with society. We strongly reject all forms of harassment, threats, hate speech, and attacks targeted at Muslims or any religious group. Such actions undermine social harmony, violate fundamental human rights, and threaten peaceful coexistence in our diverse society. We therefore say no to intimidation, no to threats, and no to attacks. We also say no to religious bigotry, intolerance, and discrimination. Freedom of religion or belief is not a privilege granted to a few; it is a right owed to all. Mutual respect, understanding, and the rule of law must guide our coexistence in a pluralistic society.
