Watching the Henry Nowak bodycam footage again, one thing I noticed that I missed the first time was what the officer who had already handcuffed Henry said: “Back off, get their details and I’ll keep hold of him.” F*cking Keep hold of him? 🤬 Henry was already on the ground, barely conscious, handcuffed, bleeding out from five stab wounds. He was dying. Yet this officer frames restraining a mortally wounded teenager as some kind of dutiful act, as if he’s heroically containing a threat rather than failing a young man crying out that he’d been stabbed and couldn’t breathe. The man who stabbed Henry has rightly been sent to prison for murder. But the officers who treated his victim with such disgraceful neglect in those final minutes deserve to be in there along side him. 😡

A vigil for one of the men killed in Saturday’s A66 wrong-way crash turned into a field of burning cars last night near Haswell, County Durham. Friends of Michael Robert Cahill, 23, gathered to remember him after he and four others died when a VW Passat was driven the wrong way along the A66 in Middlesbrough and hit a police car. Two officers, PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38 were also killed. The other passengers were Theo Rae, 17, Cole Robert Worthy, 17, Jacob Matusiak, 23, and Makai Saddington, 18. According to The Sun, footage from the vigil showed youths skidding cars around a farmer’s field, then setting five motors alight. Masked bikers sounded horns. Blue flares went off. Balloons spelling “Michael” were released. Firefighters and police were called; the wrecks were still smoking this morning. It is not clear who the cars belonged to. The local farmer was left with scorched ground and the burnt-out vehicles. Cahill’s mum had asked people to bring bikes, jeeps, cars and quads and give her son “the send-off he deserves.” The gathering came hours after police announced a major crackdown as gang-related violence around Middlesbrough escalated. That unrest has included homes being rammed and a house fire that killed Valentina Foster, 7, and her aunt Natalie McDonald, 34. More than 200 extra officers have been sent in. Reports and eyewitness accounts also suggest he may have been in a distressed or vulnerable state beforehand, which makes this even more unfortunate, but it doesn’t change what a tiger is or how it behaves. Zoo keepers are not stationed 24/7 with snipers waiting for someone to enter an enclosure. That isn’t realistic, nor is it how these facilities operate. Staff intervened with warning shots to drive the tiger away once it was safe to do so. The tiger (Altai) was right on top of the man, expecting a keeper to make a clean, precise kill shot in those chaotic seconds while the animal is on a person is unrealistic. They are not trained marksmen, and the risk of hitting the man would have been extremely high. The outcome is horrific and the man’s death is a tragedy. But killing the tiger for acting like a tiger, after a human entered its space, would have been the wrong call. The park’s decision not to euthanise Altai is the correct one. That's why blasphemy laws are so absurd, they're basically trying to protect an all-powerful deity from having its feelings hurt. At the end of the day, we should be free to criticise any idea. Just because you're offended doesn't automatically mean you're right. Spot on, Ricky. Free speech isn't about never upsetting anyone, it's about the right to speak anyway.

Officers should be de-escalating and protecting lawful behaviour, not threatening people with arrest for hypothetical future crimes by others. Absolutely disgraceful.
