In the wild, mothers leave #foals that are too weak to stand or travel with their family. Abandoning a premature baby saves the rest of the band from danger. Majesty’s natural instincts tell her to do this. She is comforted by Precious while Wee Fergus is cared for at the clinic.

With heavy heart, I must tell you that Marjorie Morningstar left us. She was 33yo. Quite honestly, I think she just didn't want to be without her soulmate, Violet, who passed a few weeks ago. Their bond ran deeper than I can find the words to describe.

1st touches with Wyatt reveal he’s a love bug. We shaved his brand to learn he is 20yo from New Mexico. Adopted when he was young, he was seized back by the BLM, then readopted. Judging by his feet, he was neglected quite a while before being sold into the slaughter pipeline.

Darling little Fergus is out of the hospital and home with mama Mouse. He’s so friendly, soft and fluffy. I have to admit there were tears when I finally got to meet him. He has no idea how different his life is from a normal foal’s and accepts it all with grace and kindness.

We usually give new #wildhorse arrivals a little time before doing intake in the hydraulic squeeze chute, but Adonis’ #feet were so bad that Janelle got started right away on trimming them. He came out the other side feeling like he was walking on air.

Wee Fergus still isn't strong enough to walk all the way to his grassy enclosure. To keep him from over-using his tendons (as they're still quite lax) the vets give him a ride. He enjoys this as much as he does the sunshine and green grass with his new mom, Mouse.

Sundance taking a cool dip in the pond, loving life. He was caught running down Klamath Falls HWY after he escaped from his adopter, who starved him. He had some training, but wasn't happy, so we said yes to bringing him to #Skydog. #wildhorse

How do you find #wildhorses to feed them on a 9000-acre #ranch? They magically appear when they hear the Polaris motor to make sure they don't miss a meal! Many of the #wildmustangs in this group were saved from kill pens. We hope to add at least two more to this #Skydog #herd.

Wee Fergus the Fighter is strong enough to walk to his outdoor paddock at the vet clinic, where he spent his first Big Boy Night Out with his nursing mom, Mouse. We got the great news that they can come to Skydog on Monday!

2/ Bend Equine put out a call for a nurse mare. A kind, very selfless lady answered. She was about to wean her yearling from a #mare, Mouse, who was still in milk. She brought her to the vet yesterday. They connected immediately and wee Fergus understood the assignment.

Eclipse &amp; Survivor are home! An incredible day, drenched in love, for these two magnificent #wildhorses. They’ll start out on 40 peaceful acres with shady trees, spring water, and soon some equine company to help them settle in. Thank you for helping us restore their #freedom.

Maverick - a #quarterhorse, not a #mustang - was left here by a ranch hand and joined a wild herd. With a seahorse blaze, he’s still got some great moves for a 30yo. He was delighted when treatment for a skin infection ended so he could leave the barn and go back to his friends.

The essence of unbridled joy: Sheldon returning to his herd after time in the barn eating extra calories to reach a good winter weight. A celebratory buck, squeals, sniffs, sharing breath, and running with the many #wildhorse #rescues he has welcomed into his family at #Skydog.

Sovereign was too scared to load during evacuation from the #PalisadesFire. Teen volunteer Kalyna Fedorowycz, who’s known &amp; loved him her whole life, rode &amp; led him 14 miles out of a burning canyon for 4-5 hours. Her Dad drove behind. Bless this heroic horse girl @soulseedsforall

The BLM has instructed horse traders to ship big groups of Sale Authority (SA) mustangs directly to slaughter rather than put them on offer as they usually do to make twice the money. The BLM doesn’t like it that their SA racket is making them “look bad”‼️

Bruce was happy to arrive at Skydog in Santa Ynez, which is for older horses - he’s around 30 - and those with special needs. Bailey gave him an enthusiastic welcome to his new home where seniors Beau and Mr. Parker introduced themselves. Thank you #GivingTuesday2025 donors!

It ripped my heart out to see 30yo Marjorie Morning Star alone in a kill pen. Her dignity and helplessness in the face of such cruelty. Good food and a hoof trim already have her feeling better, along with kindness, soft voices, love and respect. You are home now, Marge.

Spartacus and his son, Gatsby, are elusive #wildhorses who usually head for the hills as soon as they see people. They fought hard for their freedom. Spartacus was recaptured after jumping the BLM trap multiple times. It’s an honor to restore their freedom at #skydogsanctuary.

Old Violet &amp; Marjorie Morningstar survived years of neglect. After starvation, #horses often overeat to compensate. Knowing #winter is coming, they’ve been growing winter coats and piling on the pounds! We’ve put them on a healthy equine weight watcher diet until Christmas.

When we find #wildhorses who were rounded up by the BLM, abused, neglected, and discarded like trash, we sing to them of the wild that once filled their souls until they remember the song.

Dalton raced to greet his mum Priscilla. She ran for joy, straight out of the trailer, to see every friend in her herd. Her daughter Shasta, whom she nursed when she was orphaned, and raised as her own, is without doubt the happiest to see her mom and does not leave her side.
