As I suspected last night, Andy Pages' robbery of Austin Wells was one of his best catches of the season. Statcast has it at 15% catch probability, with Pages going 63 feet in 3.8 seconds to make the grab. It's his fourth 5-star catch of the year.

I just noticed that Andy Pages has a new "best catch of the year" according to catch probability, and it's a great example of how watching the advanced stats can tell you things you won't get from watching on TV. This was the last play of the game last Wednesday. Bogaerts hit the ball 102.3 MPH at a 15° launch angle, and Pages covered 45 feet in 2.9 seconds and did it so efficiently he didn't even have to leave his feet. Statcast has it at just a 5% catch probability.

Any rules experts want to weigh in on this interesting play in Baltimore a bit ago? Daulton Varsho stole second, throw went into center, Varsho turned to go to third and collided with SS Jorge Mateo. Umpire clearly signaled obstruction, but Varsho didn't see the call and scampered back to second. Varsho wasn't awarded third base. Orioles broadcast said him going back to second nullified the obstruction, but I don't see anything in the rules allowing for that. Blue Jays broadcast, of course, thought Varsho should have been awarded third base. Unless I'm missing something, I agree with them.
