🔺Drone footage shows the damage still being caused by the New Forest fire. The blaze appears to have started after a white Transit van suffered what looked like an engine fire, before the flames spread to overgrown vegetation on the central reservation. But it raises a wider question: could some of this damage have been avoided? Why are weeds, grass and vegetation alongside major roads and central reservations allowed to become so overgrown, particularly during periods of hot, dry weather? Is this another sign of Broken Britain — basic maintenance being neglected until something goes seriously wrong? Could better roadside maintenance have reduced the risk of the fire spreading?
