the thing is deep hunting atrain and his family is supposed to be intense. but this scene shows that it became such a regular thing for both of them that reggie doesn’t even try to fight deep anymore cause he knows he’s a loser who follows homelander’s orders out of fear

“those prayers went unanswered, nobody was listening. god checked out” oh father starting as a genuine believer who used to help people but grew cynical over time and eventually abandoned his faith is SO interesting to me. this scene added so much depth to his character

S4 wasn’t perfect but it also gave me one of my favorite scenes in the entire show. the pain in homelander’s voice when he confronts ryan and the way it spirals into his breaking point in front of the mirror, revealing just how fractured his mind has become is perfection

they had to keep deep and firecracker separate in season 5 cause they would have been unstoppable together

another thing i was surprised by in this scene is that oh father’s faith in homelander seems genuine? he’s still a grifter at his core, but he does so much mental gymnastics he genuinely convinced himself homelander is some sort of messiah despite knowing he’s a murderous psycho
