You’d think it would be difficult to turn a new start for young families on a gorgeous spring day into a grim sectarian mess, but Lisburn has managed it. Christ almighty. How pathetically insecure is it possible to be?

In Bangor today for the model railway show at City Church. The town is virtually dead. The bottom half of Main Street heading towards the water is a wasteland. The MP, MLAs and councillors should hang their heads. Absolutely grrrrrrim on a Saturday in the festive season.

No wrens. No birds, in fact. Heartbreaking how things have changed in such a short space of time. But who cares, eh? Long as we get to drive around a massive car park five times at Christmas looking for a parking spot.
