Radio traffic from response to Sen. Graham’s home: Emergency radio traffic indicates that Senator Lindsey Graham suffered chest pains before going into cardiac arrest Saturday night. Efforts to revive the South Carolina lawmaker were not successful. Graham died two days after his 71st birthday. This is the second time within a month that the DC Fire & EMS Department was dispatched to the Capitol Hill home of a Republican U.S. Senator reported to be in cardiac arrest. The first was Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky on June 14th. The radio traffic from indicates that the 911 caller last night was a woman in Baltimore. The crew from Engine 7 arrived and could not get anyone to answer the door. They apparently forced entry into the home. The radio traffic gives the impression that Senator Graham may not have immediately been in cardiac arrest when they arrived, but there is no confirmation of that information. Here’s the unofficial timeline for the call: · 8:27:34 Engine 7 and Medic 7 (a paramedic ambulance) were dispatched to Graham’s home on South Capitol Street SE (I’ve omitted the street numbers). · 8:32:34 Engine 7 requested a callback to get someone inside to open the locked front door. · 8:33:34 (timestamp missing on video) Dispatcher reported that the caller said she was not in the home and the door is unlocked. · 8:34:15 Dispatcher reported that the caller asked if they knocked on the door, believing the patient would answer. Engine 7 responded, “Yes. Repeatedly.” · 8:35:05 Dispatcher said the caller is coming from Baltimore. The dispatcher asked Engine 7 if they would like a ladder truck company to force entry and asked about the need for DC Police. Engine 7 said they will need police, but they could handle forcing entry into the home. · 8:53:28 Engine 7 reported CPR was in progress “now” and requested an EMS supervisor (standard on cardiac arrest calls). · 8:54:00 EMS 6, an EMS supervisor, was dispatched. · 9:13:41 Battalion Chief 2 told the dispatcher to attach him to the run with Engine 7 (this is not routine on most cardiac arrest calls and is likely an indication of who the patient was). #lindseygraham #sengraham #firefighters #EMS #capitolhill The Hill Mike Emanuel 🇺🇸 Tom Sherwood Manu Raju The DC Line Scott MacFarlane Jim Acosta Jake Kanter Jake Tapper 🦅 Brian Stelter Paul Farhi Jennifer M. The Great America 250 Smoke Out: For those of us on the south side of the DC fireworks, it started out great. The beauty of it didn't last long on our side. Watch what happens as I speed it up about 40 times. I said to our guests after the initial bursts, "That's not good, the smoke is coming our way." We were soon enveloped in a wall of smoke. Inside, with the windows closed, our eyes started stinging and it smelled. The smoke was visible for quite a while, and you could still smell it outside this morning. We were the unlucky ones this time, with the wind blowing our way. Not a complaint, just thought you'd like to see it. #fireworks #dcfireworks #july4th #weather Capital Weather Arlington Now Matthew Young NEWS FROM THE CONCRETE Doug Kammerer Hillary Howard

During part of the time of the DCA ground stop Tom Roussey mentions below ⏬⏬, the USPPNEWS helicopter was flying a pattern between Downtown DC and the Pentagon. It appeared to be part of the security for a 1:30ish motorcade that blocked all lanes of I-395S. Based on the flags, I would say it was related to Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to DC. Traffic was later blocked on I-395N for the return trip. #DCA #aviation #motorcade #pentagon #iraq Arlington Now Henry Bright Matthew Young

High-speed police escort into DC: You must admit that we have some of the most picturesque police chases in the countrty. Where else, besides I-395, can you go in excess of 100 mph with the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, Pentagon, and Air Force Memorial behind you? This was a VA State Police motorcycle chase into DC Wednesday night. The chase was stopped at the Potomac River. Arlington Now Matthew Young NEWS FROM THE CONCRETE Henry Bright #police #chase

NEW: A family of geese, walking instead of flying, clogged I-66 westbound for more than an hour this afternoon. A Metro Transit Police K-9 officer protected them by himself for about 45 minutes. After VA State Police and ArlingtonCountyPD joined in, there appeared to be a failed effort to guide them off at the Sycamore Street exit. A second appearance of the police K-9 apparently then spooked mom and dad. From the VDOT Northern VA/ video it appears that, in the end, the kids and parents became separated. NEW: Arlington County Police now confirm that 50-year-old Aaron Queen has been arrested on a DUI charge. STATter911 has leaned that Queen is the current director of Arlington Public Schools Office of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management. He previously had a 20-year career with Arlington County Police. As you can see in the video below from 🔽🔽, an APS SUV became stuck in the snow and ice at Washington Blvd. and Wilson Blvd. in Clarendon around 7:30 p.m. People who called 911 believed the driver was possibly intoxicated. ACPD said, "Responding officers made contact with the driver, and, following their investigation, placed him under arrest for driving under the influence. The involved vehicle was an Arlington Public Schools vehicle. Aaron Queen, 50, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence." From Arlington Public Schools: "We are aware of an incident involving an Arlington Public Schools employee who was arrested on January 25 while operating an APS vehicle. The matter is currently under review. APS takes the safety of our community seriously and is cooperating with the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD). Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to provide additional details at this time." Queen was appointed to his post on July 1, 2023. The APS website says Queen previously served 20 years with the Arlington County Police Department. For ACPD, he had been a patrol officer, crime scene agent, community police officer, school resource officer, detective, master police officer, and a sergeant. THE HITS KEEP ON COMING: U.S. Park Police drove an apparent stroke victim to the hospital this evening after waiting about 20 minutes for medics to arrive just one block from the White House. EMS was delayed because DC911/Office of Unified Communications sent DC Fire and EMS Department to two bad locations in the wrong quadrant of the city. While this was going on, US Park Police told DC911 that the patient’s “condition was deteriorating”. Listen to the radio traffic below 🔽🔽. US Park Police were at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue NW near the Lockkeeper’s House in the shadow of the Washington Monument, just south of the White House. Fire and EMS were first sent to 15th and Constitution NE, followed by 17th and Constitution NE. It took about 18 minutes before DC911 corrected the problem. OUC only learned of the mistake after US Park Police called on the radio, wondering where the medics were. About the same time, a fire officer who was sent to the wrong location noticed in the notes entered by DC911 that the correct location was by the Lockkeeper's House, a landmark provided to 911 by US Park Police. It should have been a big clue to call-takers and dispatchers that they entered the wrong quadrant. By the time OUC dispatched the correct fire and EMS units to the correct location, a US Park Police officer decided to drive the patient to the hospital. What does it say to visitors when a premier tourist city like the nation's capital continually shows that its 911 center can’t promptly send help to some of the best-known locations, not just in DC, but around the world? What does it say about the mayor and DC Council that DC911 constantly makes these mistakes, not just in tourist areas, but all over the city, with zero accountability? When will someone #FixDC911? NEW: STATter911 video of the two jets yesterday forced to divert their approaches to Reagan National Airport due to a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter circling the Pentagon. The Black Hawk, identified as PAT 23, appeared to be on what has become the new normal pattern for landing at the Pentagon helipad. The newer approach since January’s mid-air collision, puts helicopters closer to the east side of the building. You’ll first see Delta 1671 near Georgetown climb and abandon its approach on Runway 19. After this, PAT 23 did not land at the helipad immediately. Instead, it came around the Pentagon, repeating its previous path. That’s when Republic 5825, between the Memorial Bridge and 14th Street Bridge, began climbing for its go-around. As you can read below, NTSB is now investigating these incidents. Arlington Now Adam Tuss Tom Roussey Pete Muntean Kris Van Cleave Rachel Weiner Matthew Young NEWS FROM THE CONCRETE
