NEW: A family of geese, walking instead of flying, clogged I-66 westbound for more than an hour this afternoon. A Metro Transit Police K-9 officer protected them by himself for about 45 minutes. After VA State Police and ArlingtonCountyPD joined in, there appeared to be a failed effort to guide them off at the Sycamore Street exit. A second appearance of the police K-9 apparently then spooked mom and dad. From the VDOT Northern VA/ video it appears that, in the end, the kids and parents became separated. Not the happiest of endings, but not the worst. THE HITS KEEP ON COMING: U.S. Park Police drove an apparent stroke victim to the hospital this evening after waiting about 20 minutes for medics to arrive just one block from the White House. EMS was delayed because DC911/Office of Unified Communications sent DC Fire and EMS Department to two bad locations in the wrong quadrant of the city. While this was going on, US Park Police told DC911 that the patient’s “condition was deteriorating”. Listen to the radio traffic below 🔽🔽. US Park Police were at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue NW near the Lockkeeper’s House in the shadow of the Washington Monument, just south of the White House. Fire and EMS were first sent to 15th and Constitution NE, followed by 17th and Constitution NE. It took about 18 minutes before DC911 corrected the problem. OUC only learned of the mistake after US Park Police called on the radio, wondering where the medics were. About the same time, a fire officer who was sent to the wrong location noticed in the notes entered by DC911 that the correct location was by the Lockkeeper's House, a landmark provided to 911 by US Park Police. It should have been a big clue to call-takers and dispatchers that they entered the wrong quadrant. By the time OUC dispatched the correct fire and EMS units to the correct location, a US Park Police officer decided to drive the patient to the hospital. What does it say to visitors when a premier tourist city like the nation's capital continually shows that its 911 center can’t promptly send help to some of the best-known locations, not just in DC, but around the world? What does it say about the mayor and DC Council that DC911 constantly makes these mistakes, not just in tourist areas, but all over the city, with zero accountability? When will someone #FixDC911? NEW: Arlington County Police now confirm that 50-year-old Aaron Queen has been arrested on a DUI charge. STATter911 has leaned that Queen is the current director of Arlington Public Schools Office of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management. He previously had a 20-year career with Arlington County Police. As you can see in the video below from 🔽🔽, an APS SUV became stuck in the snow and ice at Washington Blvd. and Wilson Blvd. in Clarendon around 7:30 p.m. People who called 911 believed the driver was possibly intoxicated. ACPD said, "Responding officers made contact with the driver, and, following their investigation, placed him under arrest for driving under the influence. The involved vehicle was an Arlington Public Schools vehicle. Aaron Queen, 50, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence." From Arlington Public Schools: "We are aware of an incident involving an Arlington Public Schools employee who was arrested on January 25 while operating an APS vehicle. The matter is currently under review. APS takes the safety of our community seriously and is cooperating with the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD). Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to provide additional details at this time." Queen was appointed to his post on July 1, 2023. The APS website says Queen previously served 20 years with the Arlington County Police Department. For ACPD, he had been a patrol officer, crime scene agent, community police officer, school resource officer, detective, master police officer, and a sergeant. Hoping that I am not revealing top secret information, but I've long had the impression the Pentagon has more snow removal and road treatment equipment per square mile than just about anywhere else. Do they get their weather briefings from Military Intelligence, or do they just read Capital Weather Gang and watch our local TV weather folks like the rest of us? I have so many questions. Looking at some of the clouds now coming in, I think this fleet will be rolling soon. #Pentagon #snow #weather Arlington Now Matthew Young

NEW: STATter911 video of the two jets yesterday forced to divert their approaches to Reagan National Airport due to a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter circling the Pentagon. The Black Hawk, identified as PAT 23, appeared to be on what has become the new normal pattern for landing at the Pentagon helipad. The newer approach since January’s mid-air collision, puts helicopters closer to the east side of the building. You’ll first see Delta 1671 near Georgetown climb and abandon its approach on Runway 19. After this, PAT 23 did not land at the helipad immediately. Instead, it came around the Pentagon, repeating its previous path. That’s when Republic 5825, between the Memorial Bridge and 14th Street Bridge, began climbing for its go-around. As you can read below, NTSB is now investigating these incidents. Arlington Now Adam Tuss Tom Roussey Pete Muntean Kris Van Cleave Rachel Weiner Matthew Young NEWS FROM THE CONCRETE

UPDATE 1: Here's video of police responding into the Fashion Centre from S. Hayes and 12th. At one point, there was a report of an officer in trouble. It sounds as if things are calming down but there are still a lot of people around and some skirmishes. Police indicate the mall is mostly getting cleared out. The mall is considered shut down but they're having trouble getting an announcement made on the public address system. Report of a couple of injuries. Video via Midwest Safety.

A Must See: I'm not sure I've watched a police chase quite like this since a guy stole a bus in Baltimore on election night a few decades ago and ended up in Stafford County. This is reported to be a carjacked car with the people inside armed with a weapon. I counted 29 cop cars behind it. One officer called it "a mile long" line of police cars. Obviously, many different police departments are involved. It came across the Wilson Bridge from Maryland just before p.m., went through some streets in Alexandria, and then north on I-395. The driver avoided the spike strip just before the 14th Street Bridge around p.m. and smacked another car. It apparently ended in DC with arrests made. Speeds at times were in excess of 100 mph. Will look for more video and more details and will post later. @SafetyVid Arlington Now ALXnow Charlie Bragale Matthew Young @RealTimeNews10 Henry Bright Tom Jackman #safety #chase #police #crime #Arlington #Virginia #Maryland

NEW: Prior to deadly crash, a pickup truck driver raced the wrong way at high speed along Wilson Blvd. to N. Glebe Rd. The truck passed an ArlingtonCountyPD officer at N. George Mason Dr. who tried to catch up. A woman died in the collision. Her car was hit after she pulled onto Wilson from N. Vermont. Video via Here's ACPD's information on the investigation: ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash along Wilson Boulevard that occurred on the afternoon of January 27, 2025. At approximately p.m., police and fire were dispatched to the report of a crash with injuries involving multiple vehicles. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Wilson Boulevard at a high rate of speed when they struck a white sedan as it turned onto Wilson Boulevard from N. Vermont Street. As a result of the impact from the initial crash, the vehicles struck two additional vehicles stopped at the traffic light at Wilson Boulevard and N. Glebe Road. The drivers of the pickup truck and the sedan were transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the sedan, an adult female, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck, an adult male, remains hospitalized with critical injuries. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to his incident is asked to contact Detective K. Stahl at 703-228-7145 or [email protected].
