Always a good way to start the day…Isle of May Puffins…

Traffic jam! Road blocked on the Isle of May…

Blustery start on the Isle of May but a good day for these fellas…

The first Guillemot chick has now fledged (jumped off the cliff!) on the Isle of May and this month will see thousands depart. We wish them well.

This is a Goldcrest, it’s Britains smallest bird and weighs the same as a 20p piece. It’s just crossed the North Sea from Scandinavia and landed on the Isle of May. Probably never seen humans before…

Plenty more Puffin chicks have hatched across the Isle of May as this adult waits patiently to enter an underground burrow to feed its chick. It’s going to be a busy month ahead.

Just a few more Isle of May Puffins from this morning (why not). Interestingly they headed out to sea this afternoon probably to feed when the weather calmed.

Great news! We have our Arctic Terns back this year on the Isle of May (they didn’t nest last year). These birds have spent their winter in the Antarctic and are now here nesting. You might need a hat!

Morning all, here are some adult Puffins but today we bring you the exciting news that we have our first Puffin chicks which have hatched on the Isle on May (known as Pufflings) as the blog explains:

The east coast of the U.K. is being hit badly by avian influenza for a second consecutive summer. Vulnerable populations are threatened further and it’s depressing to see. The blog has the story:

It’s at this time of year there is a chance you can see young Pufflings out of their burrow stretching wings, ready to leave like this fluffy bum!

Sorrry didn’t mean to spook you! The Razorbill chick is spooked by its parent stretching its wings.

We have lift off! The first Pufflings are now leaving the Isle of May as birds are now independent. This is a big moment as they’ve never flown and not seen the sea before! Good luck :)

Sometimes on the Isle of May the wildlife comes to us…I caught this Puffin yesterday in one of our buildings and released unharmed :) stunning but powerful wee birds.

Shag chicks have been growing up fast on the Isle of May and these chicks are nearly as large as their parents

We’ve got a few inquisitive young Grey Seals around the jetty on the Isle of May at the moment, like this little fella. So streamlined and built for the sea :)
