At the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields tonight, Olivia Rodrigo brought out Sarah McLachlan for the latter’s “Building A Mystery” and “Angel,” dedicated to the late Dolly Parton. The pop star’s women-led festival in Irvine, which was inspired by McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, raised $10M for women’s rights nonprofits, an amount that Melinda French Gates is doubling with a $10M donation through her charity Pivotal. “Without Lilith Fair, there would no Daisy Chain,” Rodrigo said. She also brought out Alanis Morissette for “Ironic” and Stevie Nicks for “Landslide.”

Julian Casablancas expanded on his recent Zionism comments in a speech at the Oxford Union. When the Strokes frontman appeared on SubwayTakes a few months ago, he said “American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people but talk like they are Black people during slavery.” He continued, “Just for the people that are going to be like, ‘Hamas, October 7th.’ Yes, bad. But Native American rebellions didn’t mean it was okay to do what we did. Slave rebellions that were violent didn’t mean that slavery is not bad.” In late May, Casablancas appeared at the Oxford Union (the debating society where he previously spoke in 2021) and expanded on those remarks. His speech began with an argument about the power of words and the need for more precise political language. He said capitalism, communism, socialism, and libertarianism have been bent and stretched to the point of losing their meaning. Then he brought up Zionism and argued that the word has become too broad to be useful, proposing more specific categories “to help avoid future discord.” Casablancas said Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians but identified himself as a “green liner,” someone who accepts the 1967 Green Line borders. He contrasted that position with “expansionists” — “the good old settler types just shooting at Palestinians and taking homes daily.”

Aimee Mann is the only guest vocalist on a Rush track, having sung on the band’s 1987 single “Time Stand Still” back when ‘Til Tuesday were still active. Rush kicked off their first tour in over a decade last night in Inglewood, CA, and they brought Mann onstage to perform the song live with them for the first time…

At Boston’s Fenway Park last night, Phish covered “Melt The Guns,” a deep cut from XTC’s ‘English Settlement.’ The last time they’d performed it was 2,051 shows prior, on April 29, 1987, so it’s the biggest bustout (a song returning to the setlist after a long absence) in Phish history. It shatters a record the band set just last week when they covered Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice” at NYC’s Madison Square Garden — after a gap of 1,469 shows.
